Comments about Cardone Power Steering Pump w/o Reservoir - Domestic:

My PS pump went out hundreds of miles from home. Advanced did have one in stock. I swapped it out and they even pressed the old pulley off the old one and onto the new pump for me. That was yesterday. Today the bearing sounds like it is ready to fall apart! That's what happened top the last reman pump I got(From NAPA 2 months ago) Advance Auto was great, but the remanufacturer that rebuilds these pumps should be shot! Maybe they will get tired of the returns and start rebuilding them with quality parts. Wish the warantee covered my time and all the fluid I have wasted.

      • Q:

I have a 1995 Jeep Wrangler with a 4.0 (straight 6) engine. However, the engine is from a 1999 Cherokee. I can't tell which engine the current power steering pump is from. It does not have an integral resevoir - rather, the resevoir is remotely mounted to the radiator. The power steering part numbers from Cardone are not the same for the two years.

One problem is that the current power steering pump is missing the two rear attaching bolts - these are the bolts that you need to loosen to adjust the belt tension on the serpentine belt. These two bolts go into the two "ears" on the rear of the pump - however, there are no threads on the current pump that you could thread a bolt into (there should be). The front "ears" are threaded and have another bracket bolted to it.

I need someone to pull out the two pumps and tell me which one has the rear "ears" threaded - the 1995 pump (#20-820) or the 1999 pump (#20-771). Which ever has the rear ears threaded is the one I likely need.
