A Steering Gear Box is the component within a car’s steering system that guides the wheel’s movement in conjunction with the direction that the steering wheel is rotated—helping achieve ideal steering response for more efficient driving. The micro-finished surfaces of its shafts are precision-designed to provide a smoother drive, while the factory-set Pitman shaft transmits the motion it receives from the gear box by moving the wheels left or right to turn the wheels. OEM-grade O-rings and seals meet required specifications.

Product Features :
  • Precision designed micro-finished shafts
  • Factory pre-set Pitman Shaft
  • 100% tested OEM Grade Seals and O-rings

I have installed 2 of these in the last 10 years, on separate trucks. one truck runs 32x11.50's, and the other is stock. gear boxes seam to be doing just fine. Not as hard to install as what most make it out to be. not fun, but can easily be done in 4 hr's or so, if you know what you are doing.

Comments about Cardone Power Steering Gear - Remanufactured:

I went through six of these gear boxes in six months, and all had excessive slack in them that could not be adjusted out. Two of them were so bad I did not even install them. What is happening here is that when these boxes are rebuilt, they are not replacing the gear shafts, they are only replacing the bearings and seals. When you rebuild a gear box, the gears must also be replaced.

Comments about Cardone Power Steering Gear - Remanufactured:

part was poorly rebuilt (if at all) steering is heavy and has more play than the original with( 235K), I will not leave this part on the truck and plan to install a quality part from different manufacturer.part was for 97 Tahoe.stearing shaft was covered with paint(must be clean)mounting threads needed to be chased as they were rusty and covered with paint(bolts won't thread in). anyone can tighten up worm gear play and get same results as this part. NOT HAPPY

I had to return the first gearbox that I got because the threads where you attach the pitman arm nut were damaged. They gave me another one and it was fine. I recommend making sure the pitman nut and the mounting bolts go on with no problems as soon as you buy it.

I bought this steering box for my 96 f350 because of steering play and wander that I issolated to the steering box. After instaling the box I took it for a ride and their was no change in steering wheel play. After instaling box I noticed that it takes noticably more effort to turn the wheel left than it does right. With the steering wheel unlocked I can reach thru the wheelwell and turn the steering shaft almost halfway around before the pitman arm moves. I also bought an oem style powersteering return line from advanced and the fitting's threads were stripped right out of the package. Verry dissapointed

These are not that difficult to replace. I haven't done one in a while but the hardest part is dealing with all of the rust! Depending on where your live I guess... The lines and everything could break off if it is rusted real good. Just soak it down with some good penetrating fluid and buy new lines just in case; you can always return them if you don't need them. You will need a puller tool to get the pitman arm off though. They are not that expensive, especially if you get it from Harbor Freight.
