Getting a lean condition and ramdom misfire Error Codes in the ECM. I replaced the MAS to correct the lean condition.

To fix the random misfires I replaced the spark plugs and 2 upstream oxygen sensors. This did not help. Truck still did not have any power.

Discovered that the ramdon misfires was being caused by clogged up catalytic converter. The cause was the MAS was causing the engine to run too rich. The converters could not handle the rich condition.

Installed new Y-pipe with catalytic converters. The truck is running like new.

I ordered online, when I got to the store and took product out of the box.
the face of the sensor was covered with excess solder.
the clerk went and pulled another one and was not quite as bad.
I took that one, my truck seems to run ok( for how long I don't know) but I would not recommend this product until quality improved

                • Q:

My 1999 Silverado 1500 w/ 5.3L usually starts immediately when cold. Sometimes when already warm, it has to crank for awhile before starting. I read that this may be a mass air flow sensor issue. Does anyone know if this is a good likelihood? I've already replaced the fuel lines, filter and fuel pump. I don't want to buy one without more info on this symptom and cure.

Some MAFs are reportedly not effective with oiled (e.g., K & N) air filters. Is that true?

                    A:

Happy to answer your question Dick! A faulty mass air flow sensor is possible. If you have a check engine light that could be a big clue to what is going on. Also if you do have a K & N and it was recently cleaned some of the oil can come off and get on the mass air flow. To avoid this be sure the filter is thoroughly dry before applying the treatment to it. If your mass air flow does have some oil on it from the filter you can use CRC Mass Air flow Sensor Cleaner (Part No 05110).

my check engine light comes on periodically and my obd ii code ready gave a reading that the mass air flow sensor was the issue. what's happening in my 04 chevy tahoe is there a lil hesitation in the throttle while driving and sometimes the air flow from the vents blows out extremely hot air even when the heat isn't on. would this part correct that?

I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.
