Comments about Cardone Hydraulic Power Rack and Pinion {Complete} - Import:

I followed the caution instructions and had no problems. I suggest having a helper to properly align unit when first installing, to avoid damage to feed lines. My main concern was that the threads of rebuilt unit would be a problem, but every part was clean and fit correctly. The best part of buying online is that I received a $50.00 savings and free shipping to my home. Thanks Advance Auto.

          A:

Hi Carvin06, please follow these instructions to replace the rack and pinion. 1. Lift up the front of the vehicle using the jack and support it on jack stands. Make sure the vehicle is secure before you crawl underneath. 2. Unbolt the rack and pinion from the steering shaft using the 3/8-inch ratchet. Once it's unbolted, the steering shaft can be pulled off the rack. 3. Loosen the lines connecting the power steering pump to the rack with an open-end wrench. 4. Unbolt the tie rod ends from the front suspension using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set. The tie rods will then drop down off the vehicle. 5. Unbolt the rack from the vehicle using the 3/8-inch ratchet. There are four bolts that clamp the rack to the frame. The rack can be removed from the vehicle. 6. Measure the distance from the end of the rack and pinion dust boots to the end of the tie rod ends. This is a reference point so that you can reinstall the tie rods onto the new rack. 7. Unscrew the tie rod ends using the open-end wrench. Reinstall those tie rod ends onto the new rack, using the measurement in Step 6. 8. Reinstall the rack in the opposite order in which it was removed.

Why does the listing state it comes with the inner tie-rods if it does not? It clearly states that it does.

Just spoke to Fenco tech rep who advised that it does have the inner tie rods but NOT the outer and also comes with the attached mounting bushing but NOT the outer rack bushing which is furthest from the valve.

      • Q:

Hi, does the rack & pinion (pt#RP2373) come with the tie rod ends or must they be transfered from the old unit? Also, if I order on line can I return the core to my local Advance Auto Parts store?

          A:

I do not believe that new tie rod ends come with the rack and pinion. You will most likely need to transfer them from your old unit. If you purchase an item online and it has a core charge, you can return the core to any one of our local Advance Auto Parts stores.
