does this computer have to be programed by a car dealership ,for crank idel theft etc. and is the other one with same price need it.,on a 93 chev lumina 3.1 base, and if i need a prom ,is it very high priced?

              A:

I'm happy to help, Peck! This Cardone Remanufactured Engine Control Computer (Part No. 77-7727) does not require a dealership for the relearning procedures. Typically, this is a similar process to the vehicle relearning after the battery is disconnected for long periods of time. A repair manual for your 1993 Chevrolet Lumina 3.1L V6 (Haynes Part No. 38010) may contain the procedure. You may also find the procedures on an enthusiast or owner's club forum.

If your PROM has failed, you will need to obtain the OE or broadcast number to obtain the correct PROM from Cardone. Cardone's part number for the PROM is 71-0001. This item is not sold through AdvanceAutoParts.com. I suggest contacting your local Advance Auto Parts store to order one, if needed.

The BWD Engine Control Module (Part No. ECC7727) would also require the vehicle to relearn its operating procedures.

my car has no spark replaced the coils and modual ? could it be the engine computer

              A:

Check the distributor cap inside for signs of cracks or carbon arc tracks. Also the little carbon contact for the center terminal is in place. Check the computer and the crank sensor. Check for voltage at the coil positive terminal when the ignition key is on. If there is voltage, the problem is may be on the trigger side of the coil i.e; pickup, crank sensor, ignition module or primary wiring circuit. If there is NO voltage at the coil, the problem is may be on the supply side i.e; the ignition switch or ignition wiring circuit. If the coil has voltage, the problem may be a bad high voltage output wire from the coil to the distributor, hairline cracks in the coil output tower, or cracks or carbon tracks inside the distributor cap or on the rotor.
