Q:I am not sure this is the unit I removed from my 1990 GMC cutaway van but it came from area above and right of battery on drivers side. The largest of the 2 plugs was unplugged and didnt seem to make any difference to its running, except the temp gauge and amp gauge dont work. This may not have a thing to do with that sort of thing, but I would still like to know what this unit is supposed to do. If it is the computer, it does not look like this one at all. Anyone help?
A:Without the presence of the vehicle we could not conclude of which part has been removed from your vehicle. We would highly recommend you to get a proper assistance from a certified mechanic to avoid intermittence. If it is the engine computer, it is a type of electronic control unit that determines the amount of fuel, ignition timing and other parameters an internal combustion engine needs to keep running. It does this by reading values from multidimensional performance maps called Look-up tables, using input values such as engine speed and air/fuel ratio calculated from signals coming from sensors monitoring the engine.
