          Comments about BWD Voltage Regulator:

For a 2001 F150, the voltage regulator comes with or without brush assembly attached, depending on brand. The BWD does not have the brushes. I bought it anyway because it was the only type available at a nearby store. Once I pulled the faulty part from the truck, I saw the brushes were nearly shot after 125 kmi. I could not find the brushes sold separately, so I returned this part to Advance and drove across town to get one with brushes. Maybe it is possible to buy a generic brush set.

                  Comments about BWD Voltage Regulator:

I replaced the original voltage regulator which failed after 109,000 miles. This was much cheaper than replacing a perfectly good alternator

                  • Q:

I'm not sure if I have a bad regulator, or the whole alternator. I can easily replace the regulator(it's mounted on the outside of the alternator). I don't want to buy the regulator then find out it was the alternator that's bad. How do I know if it is a bad regulator vs. alternator? FYI--battery showing only 12 volts when engine running, telling me no extra voltage( 13.75 - 14.25) from alternator.

With reference to your inquiry on the BWD Voltage Regulator - part# R401P, the voltage regulator may be the possible cause of the problem on your Mercury Grand Marquis. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem. For any further assistance, you may also call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our Parts Pros will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

Diodes and Brushes are not included. The BWD P-Series voltage regulators have a riveted circuit board for long life and reliable performance.

When I start my 95 f-350 Dually crew cab with a 7.3 diesel the charging indicater is very low and the lights flicker as the needle bounces. After the engine runs for a few minutes it is O.K. I put a new alternator on the truck and it did not help. Still has the same problem. What could it be?
