Comments about BWD Stoplight Switch:

If your cruise control and/or brake lights suddenly stopped working, this is probably the problem. Not too bad to change. Getting the retaining clip back on is the most difficult part of the install!

    Comments about BWD Stoplight Switch:

My brake lights worked but my cruise control did not. After doing the troubleshooting at the harness to the cruise control module, things pointed to the brake light switch.

It is hard to see and touch but I watched a youtube video and swapped it in about 20 minutes without too much effort.

Most folks say do what you have to do to get the clip off and just buy a new one, which I did, but mine was not damaged though I did have to search a bit for it as it sprang off and went flying!

          Comments about BWD Stoplight Switch:

This product was easy to install; however, getting to the old part and getting it off proved to be a little difficult for a do-it yourselfer. Once I got the old part off after about 45 minutes to an hour, the new part snapped in place very easily. I immediately had brake lights.

One-time use clips. Bear to get to. Use 11mm socket on metal round one to push on or you will break it.

on a 1999 chevy sub dose the brake light switch affect the 3rd brake light

                  A:

Yes Glw, if a third-brake light is not working, then a bad brake light switch could possibly the problem. But, also a bad fuse or an unplugged harness could make the third-brake light not to work. However, I would suggest that you take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.

Hi Glw! Since you didn't mention the specific vehicle, it's hard to tell for sure. To give you the correct information I would need the year, make, model and engine size of the vehicle.

Does this switch also control the shifter lock? Does it release the shifter from the locked Park position?

                  A:

I'd be happy to help you with that! Most vehicles now days use the brake light switch as the input signal to release the shift lock. I would not be able to tell you for your specific vehicle since you did not included the information, but if it is a newer car then most likely it does. I would recommend checking with a repair shop or checking a repair manual to verify the shift lock circuit for your model.
