Comments about CARQUEST by BWD Stoplight Switch:

This part was an exact replacement for the original that failed. Biggest issue was not the switch which functioned flawlessly but the location where it needed to be installed.

Comments about CARQUEST by BWD Stoplight Switch:

I ordered this is a rush part due to the OEM brake switch in my 99 Accord going out at 20X,XXX (F23A1 engine code, 4-cylinder auto with cruise, for reference). The electrical sockets matched perfectly, and the new sensor simply screwed into place. I was done in under half an hour!

One thing I would note is that the factory service manual does specify a range for the brake pedal height, and recommends adjustment after installing the new switch. I didn't do this, I just sort of eyeballed how far the pedal would have to move before the switch triggered. At first, the brake pedal was insanely hard, but after 1-2 good, hard presses, it went back to its normal feel after a few minutes of driving.

Hi MrWendell, this BWD Brake Light Switch - part# S6023P does not control the gear shifter lock. The function of the stop or brake light switch is to indicate to people driving behind us that our vehicle is slowing or stopping. The stop light switch would be mounted under the dash. As the driver depresses the brake pedal, the stop light switch closes. This allows current to flow through the circuit and illuminate the stop light bulbs at the rear of the vehicle.

            • A:

No, but the gear shift will lock up when this switch goes bad to prevent you from driving without brake indicator lights working.

              A:

With reference to your inquiry on the BWD Brake Light Switch - part# S6023P, brake light switches can be used for such applications as cruise control cut off and shift lock trigger. Brake light switches used for cruise control work by transmitting a signal to the car's computer unit, which then cuts the cruise control to enable deceleration. The brake light switch also sends a signal to the computer when activating shift lock or automatic transmission. Shift lock assures the brake pedal is depressed before allowing the car to shift.
