My Ford Aerostar 1996 4.0 AWD had engine code 1443. I went to Advance Auto and purchased an purge canister solenoid and installed it. Engine light came on again, I then purchased an purge flow sensor and that fixed the problem. You can clear the code by disconnecting the battery. I had to remove the air cleaner to get to the required area to replace the parts. Total job takes about half hour. Runs great now and no check engine light. Thank you Advance for stocking the parts. Cost for Parts $60.00.

Hi Cosgurl, glad to assist you! The Evaporative Emission Purge Flow Sensor is located on the front left hand side at the engine compartment, below air cleaner assembly. To get more specific information on your project I would recommend purchasing a Chilton or Haynes Repair Manual specifically for your vehicle, not only will it explain how to location of the sensor, but you'll find it handy for many more projects on your vehicle. The part number for the repair manual is 36020.

                                  A:

With reference to your inquiry on the BWD Purge Flow Sensor - part# CP509, the problem could be the Canister Purge Assembly. This assembly connects the intake manifold to the charcoal canister and the assembly is made up of hoses, a valve and a sensor. On your Ford Ranger, it would be located near the front of the engine compartment on the driver’s side (the canister is right behind the driver’s side headlight). Apparently, if there are any cracks in the hoses, or if the valve or the sensor wears out, this will cause the check engine light to come on, and return the P1443 code. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.
