I'm having a problem with the vehicle lighting. Dash lights, Tail lights, along with a few other things. I'm told that this "might" help. Can you verify weather or not this would be a good place to start? The vehicle I'm working on is a 1999 Chevy Venture van

Hi James, techy questions! In order to test a faulty ignition switch, check the behavior of the dashboard lights if your vehicle stalls. Alternatively, when the key is first turned to position two, the oil light, brake light, charge light and other warning lights will not function. You can try a test to check the integrity of the ignition switch by turning the ignition key to the ‘start’ position. As soon as it tries to start let go of the key. Allow it to snap back to the ‘run’ position and note warning lights. If they go out as the switch snaps back then the switch is faulty. If you find that your ignitions switch is faulty due to electrical issues and wiring, you may have a short in your system. However, I would suggest that you take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.

With reference to your inquiry on the BWD Ignition Switch - part# CS545, a cars ignition switch has multipurpose utility. As its name implies, the first and foremost function is to engage the ignition system of the car, or to start the car from a dead state. Secondly, it can provide access to various features or accessories of the car, like the stereo system, the radio, the windshield wiper, the headlights, brake oil levels, gasoline levels, dashboard backlight etc. The ignition switch can also be used to control the bonnet of a car. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem. For any further assistance, you may also call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our Parts Pros will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.
