Comments about CARQUEST by BWD Ignition Coil:

This ignition coil is a low cost replacement component. It is not black like the oem coil, it is dark blue. If you are looking for an authentic replacement for a restoration, this is not the part for you. If you are looking for a low cost replacement coil for a general repair, this part fits the bill.

    • Q:

What is the voltage rating of this coil? I noticed that the accel coils say they are either 42000 or 45000. Without a voltage rating listed it's hard to compare.
      Thanks

    • Q:

By saying that it needs an internal resister, is that the same as a condenser? Like the one that is in the older type distributers with points?

        A:

Hi Ed, glad to assist you! I think you mean external resistor on this one since it has low primary resistance (1.3-1.5Ω). That means that the vehicles it is used to have an outside resistor to bring the voltage into specification for that vehicle. A condenser is used on some vehicles as a noise reduction device. It is not the same as a resistor.

    • Q:

is the coil oil filled or epoxy and can it be mounted sideways

        A:

I'm glad to assist you! This is oil filled and should be mounted straight up. It can leak eventually, or expose the windings if mounted sideways. We do sell epoxy coils, but they have slightly different specifications. If you share your vehicle's year, make and model, I'll tell you the parts available for that vehicle.
