Waste of cash

Comments about CARQUEST by BWD Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve:

Spent hundred bucks on a new one plus the effort of putting one in, not mechanically inclined... Took to shop still need to be cleaned. If your current EGR is in decent looking condition I would just spend the money/look up a tutorial and have it cleaned (the egr ports)....sitting here with an unneccesary EGR and the thing still clogged lol

  • Q:

will having a bad egr valve cause my car to not pass emissions?
    Asked on 4/27/2011 by Anonymous

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Yes, If the EGR valve is stuck closed, emissions of nitrogen oxides will rise, and the car may start to knock. Spark knock happens when the fuel mixture in the combustion chamber ignites before it has been reached by the explosion in the cylinder, resulting in a disruption of the engine timing. In this instance, the engine should be warmed up and revved to see if the EGR valve will move.
