                        • Q:

This says it does not come with a gasket, so I ordered the gasket that goes with it. But when I got it in the mail, there are 3 gaskets inside the box with the EGR valve. It also says on the instructions to use the adapters and new gaskets to put the new EGR on. I only took off one gasket when I took the old EGR off, so why are there 4 new ones?

                            A:

An EGR or exhaust gas recirculation valve is used on gasoline and diesel engines to reduce the amount NOx or nitrous of oxides released into the atmosphere. The EGR valve reduces the amount of NOx by recirculating a small amount of exhaust into the intake. Symptoms Indicating a Bad EGR Valve: ENGINE OPERATION: An inoperative or clogged EGR valve will result in a rough idle, poor fuel economy and possibly a loss of power. Loss of power is especially prevalent with valves that are stuck open, as this will permit hot exhaust gases to constantly enter the combustion chamber when they are not needed. These gases will displace the air and fuel that your engine needs, causing a loss of power., CHECK-ENGINE LIGHT: Electronically controlled EGR valves have a position sensor that tells the computer how far open or shut it is. If the computer does not receive the feedback it anticipates, it will trip a check-engine light. A valve that is stuck open will usually cause the check-engine light to come on after the car warms up. One that is stuck shut will trigger when the engine is cold, but might disappear when it warms up., EMISSIONS TESTING: An EGR is primarily designed to reduce the formation of the toxic pollutant nitrogen oxide. One sure sign of EGR failure is a spike in the production of this chemical, which can only be detected by an emissions tester. For compatibility of this part with your vehicle, please provide your vehicle make, model and engine specification. A:

The EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Exhaust gas is routed back into the combustion chamber because the exhausted air is much hotter than the intake air (try touching a muffler sometime). By sending warmer gas into the combustion chamber, the air/fuel mix does not have to do as much work to heat up, and your engine runs more efficiently. A well-designed system will actually increase engine performance and economy. For further assistance please feel free to call 1-877-238-2623 and one of our representatives will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

                            A:

Yes, Malfunctioning of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) will keep a car from passing emission. Though there are several reasons a vehicles can encounter NOx failures. The most common is the malfunctioning EGR system. The EGR system recirculates burned up exhaust gases back into the combustion chambers. Since these recycled exhaust gases have already been in the combustion chambers once, they have burned up most of their fuels, means there is now much less real fuel in the chambers to ignite. This keeps the chamber temperatures down and thus reduces NOx emissions. For compatibility of this part BWD EGR Valve, Part No. EGR1036 manufactured by BWD with your vehicle, please provide your vehicle make, model and engine specification.

                            A:

Yes, if your EGR valve is bad then your vehicle will have Rough Idle, Increased Fuel Consumption, Pinging and Knocking and Increased Emissions. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.
