Bolt access was difficult and slow-going due to tight location and you should remove the vacuum lines & electrical cables near it to help with access, but if you take your time, it's very easy. Also, my port was FILTHY, so it is wise to clean it to prevent your new valve from getting fouled right away. I tested the MAP sensor after installation and all tested perfectly. The truck "settled" down nicely after new EGR valve installed and all the backfiring stopped after a 5 minute test ride.

upon instalation I found that both the EGR on my truck was bad AND the wires to the control were eaten thru by a critter. Sadly, even after changing the part and fixing the wires I still have issues with it running proper. I'll reset the diagnostic computer, redrive, and see what it comes up with afterwards.

                                        A:

Hi Jeff, great question! An EGR valve works by recirculating used exhaust gases into your engine. These gases contain unburned fuel but very little oxygen, and they're very hot. A hot intake charge carries less oxygen, so a working EGR system effectively makes your engine act smaller than it really is. In terms of driving, an EGR valve that's stuck open will cause a noticeable drop in horsepower at the very least. Along with that may come detonation "knock" or "ping" under hard acceleration, and the attendant cylinder misfires. The engine will also see an open EGR valve as a massive vacuum leak, so expect hard starting and a very rough idle. An EGR stuck closed or clogged with carbon won't exhibit many symptoms, since engines don't technically need them to run. But expect a very noticeable drop in fuel economy, a noticeable gasoline smell from the exhaust pipe, a very hot catalytic converter, or all of the above. All modern vehicles monitor the EGR system, so any fault with the system should trigger a check-engine light. You'll get one anyway if the engine ends up detonating, misfiring or running rich; all of these will trigger diagnostic codes. But you should find EGR diagnostic codes along with them if the EGR is the source of the problem.

With reference to your inquiry on the BWD EGR Valve - part# EGR101D, the EGR valve may be the possible cause of the problem on your Chevy 1500. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem. For any further assistance, you may also call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our Parts Pros will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

After it warms up and you drive in heavy traffic the check engine light comes on. When this happens the engine idle runs up and the truck shifts at much higher RPM's. You can turn the engine off and restart it and the truck runs fine. Any clue what causes this?

My truck runs fine until you let off of the gas to come to a stop then it lopes and almost dies several times then lines itself back out. I just replaced all vaccum lines and full tune up but the lines were not there to go the egr valve from the control solenoid. my question is does it go to the top or the bottom port on the solenoid. it is a 94 gmc suburban with a 350 tbi

You should attach the EGR solenoid to the top of the valve.

After driving, the check engine light came on. The next morning my truck wouldn't start, it turns over fine, & is getting fuel. When I read the code it blinked a code 32, the EGR System. Is this the part that is causing my problem, or could it be another componant of the EGR System ? Thank you for your HELP, Earnest !!!!

With out the presence of your vehicle we would not be able to properly diagnose it nor provide you with a 100% answer. We would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not solve or be the problem.
