Comments about CARQUEST by BWD Coolant Fan Relay:

I have a 2001 Town and Country LX that has had the Check Engine Light on for years. I finally decided to try to fix that and pulled the codes to find a P1491, which indicates a problem with the radiator fan relay circuits. From what I read online, this part fails a lot, so I replaced it and now the code is gone and the light is finally off. This relay is located on the front frame rail, and the original was pop-riveted on. You have to drill through that rivet to break it to get rid of the old relay. I then tapped the hole that was on the frame and secured the new relay with a bolt. Not the easiest to replace, but not terribly difficult.

Note: Currently,(april 2013), the picture that advance auto is showing for this relay does not match the actual part. The actual part has one fastening eyelet and a heatsink (looks like a metal brush).

This BWD Engine Cooling Fan Motor Relay - Part No. R6029 is located on the left side top of the bumper behind the grill. There should be a sensor telling the fan when to run and when to turn off and it could have went bad. If it is not located on the fan itself, there should be some wires that come off the fan motor and lead to the relay usually mounted some where on the frame near the fan. In some instances, the relay can be located in a fuse box.

        • A:

this is behind the glove box. You can take out the glove box by opening the box then on the side of the box it has two levers. Pull them toward the box and pull toward the seat, Box will hinge down. Relay is there in the back.
