how to replace cam sensor on 2000 dodge caravan
Asked on 1/25/2014 by dee from baltimore md

Hi Dee! Glad I could be of some help. It is located just above the timing chain cover. Kindly follow the instructions to replace the camshaft position sensor. Mark and disconnect the spark plug wires from the ignition coil, tuck out of the way. Next, with a 10 - mm socket, remove the coil pack (4 bolts) and disconnecting the electrical connection located on the bottom. Now, as you look down through the Bracketry that holds the power steering fluid and the wires which are bundled with the ignition coil wire, you will see another 10mm nut bolted in horizontally It is holding the cam sensor. Keep looking it is there! With a socket and 3 - inch extension you can reach the bolt. It is easier either to go directly under the serpentine belt, or if you have time, remove the belt for greater ability. Even though the cam design is for you to just loosen the bolt, then slide the camshaft sensor up and out. Installation is reverse the removal.

Hello John, with reference to your question, BWD Camshaft Position Sensor - Part No. CSS1543, is an Exact fit for your 2005 Dodge Caravan. The Camshaft sensor determines which cylinder is firing to establish injector synchronization and coil firing sequence in DIS systems. Crankshaft sensors set ignition timing, supply the RPM signal, and determine engine speed. The Camshaft Position sensor is typically located in the cylinder head of the engine and has a cylindrical portion that inserts into the head. The Crankshaft Position sensor is normally located in the timing cover or on the side of the block with a cylindrical portion that inserts into the block. where is the sensor located on a 2007 jeep wrangler 3.8 v6
Asked on 9/2/2013 by Tim from Wilmington nc

The AAP answer is wrong - that is for the crank sensor - not the cam sensor. The cam sensor on a 2007 wrangler is front of engine, slightly to left side, behind top pulley. Easy to spot - look for the 'upside down U' where it bolts to the engine. By the way - there is a service bulletin on these parts for 2007 wranglers. If it's bad, dealer should replace at no charge even if outside of warranty period.

Unfortunately we are unable to diagnose what is wrong with your vehicle without being able to be there with your vehicle. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.

      A:

Your 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport 3.3L should have only one camshaft position sensor and it should be mounted on the transmission bell housing next to the EGR solenoid. The sensor can be identified as a cylindrical metal component.
