This resistor was a replacement for one ordered and installed in Aug., 2015, just 14 months ago and which died by only having the highest speed functioning. Since I no longer had the invoice from the August purchase and it was 14 months since the purchase, I figured that I was screwed. The Advance employee who helped me when I picked up the part, informed me that the part had a limited lifetime warranty and Advance had a record of my purchase, so the part was replaced under warranty. Here's hoping that this one lasts longer and gets closer to the OEM's part which lasted 12 years.

Comments about CARQUEST by BWD Blower Motor Resistor:

Great replacement item, I bought the replacement resistor connector harness as well because mine was corroded and wouldn't unplug at all. when I tried to use some force & penetrant one it, it just broke the connector, and the wires stayed rusted to the terminals. I guess 15 years is a long time to have never been unplugged. So, yes it was a bit of a hassle to go back to Advance and get the connector, but the thing is, I now have all blower speeds working. Important, now that A/C is also back in working condition, before I had low, the two middle speeds were the same, then a big increase to high speed! Thanks Advance!

The blower motor resistor on your 1999 Ford Ranger should be located under the hood, in the black electrical box. There is a drawing of all that is in the box in the owner's manual. The blower motor resistor's number should be 9. A:

It is located just to the left of the blower motor. Disassemble your blower motor and expose the electronics inside. Inspect the resistors in your blower motor. They are either a small coil with electrical connections or are a removable part of an integrated circuit board. Remove the screws holding the resistor to the board, and then remove the resistor from the motor. Insert the replacement resistor in the same place as the old one and secure it with screws. Ensure that no stray wires or connections are touching the resistor.
