Hi Jellybread, happy to help! A transmission control solenoid actually completely controls the gears on your transmission. It is located in the bell housing of the transmission. It also can be of assistance in controlling the movement of the shifter too. The transmission control solenoid could possibly the problem. However, I would suggest that you to take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.

  • Q:

I have a 2004 F150 Lariat w/ Floor Shift. 5.4L Vin # 5 on the engine. I am trying to buy a Shift Interlock Switch that works the cruise control among other things. Unfortunately, I am unsure which solenoiod i need? S9869 or S9853? Per Ford TSB the Ford P/N is 4L3Z-7E096-AB. I am unsure if that P/N is correct since the Dealer gave me yet another P/N that doesn't cross to my vehicle on your website. Can you direct me in the right direction so that i do not buy the wrong part?
