I had a quite common oil pan leak in a 1997 Cadillac Deville with a Northstar engine. This leak blew back onto the exhaust system, creating a foul oil-burning smell in the cabin and creating a fire hazard when hitting a 700 degree catalytic converter. Because the entire engine must be pulled to replace the oil pan gasket (stupid design), and I was provided an estimate of $3,200 from the dealer to repair the problem, I reluctantly tried White Shepherd as a last-ditch effort to avoid the expensive repair (I really did not want to put any kind of so-called miracle cure in my motor oil). Because the Northstar engine holds 8 quarts of oil, I added one and a half 8oz bottles of White Shepherd and immediately drove it non-stop for a 2.5 hour period. I am shocked that there is no more sign of oil on the undercarriage (except the now-dry stains where the oil previously collected). The engine ran just a smooth, and the engine temperature remained the same (200 to 220 degrees). It has only been one day since I used this product so I do not know how long it will hold up, however, so far, I am highly impressed! BTW, I know it was the oil pan because I had previously cleaned the entire area with Gunk and drove the car 100 miles. There was no oil above the pan, only from the pan seal and below. The oil was also leaking from the entire perimeter of the pan (at least the areas that are visible while on a lift), not just in one spot - this was a bad leak. No more!

I purchased this product because of the reviews I found on the Web. After application and driving my car (according to directions), and giving an extra three days- I found no change. The oil leak remains the same. I have a classic car, spent a great deal on it, and thought I might save a little money in the short term, but I did not. Save your money.

Comments about BlueDevil Oil Stop Leak:

I have used this stop oil leak on 3 different cars. Worked perfectly on a 2001 ford mustang gt I had a rear main sealoil leak on! Stopped leaking after about a week but you have to drive it about 100 miles like it says on bottle. I just used it on 2 other cars and will check oil and under cars to see if lives up to expectations like I think will. Trusted product, will always use on cars with oil leaks that I buy in future, saves money than going to a mechanic shop that's going to charger over 400 bucks for sure!!!

Comments about BlueDevil Oil Stop Leak:

My 189,000 mile sedan has a moderate engine oil leak (need to top up every 2 weeks). I was hoping this product would fix it without expensive repairs. Based on other reviewers' comments, I changed the oil, added Oil Stop Leak, then drove on and off for over 2 hours. The next day, the oil leak was still there. Thinking it might take some time, I kept driving. About 3 days after application, panic!!! The oil pressure light came on. After making sure that the oil level was still full, I ignored the light. It has stayed off ever since. Maybe the additive fooled the oil sensor??!! It's been 3 weeks, and I've had to top up once. So the leak has improved but didn't go away.

Put this in a '95 Camry 4 cyl. with about 160K miles on it and within a week the rather large rear main seal leak lessened to a few drips overnight. Then after a few weeks it stopped leaking altogether. But alas, it did start leaking again after about 2 months. But it never leaked to the level of what it was beforehand which was substantial. After 5 months still no regrets buying this product.

Put this in my car which currently has a rear main seal leak. I tried their rear main sealer before. It did seem to alleviate the major leaking for the most part I had going on at the time. I'm trying this stuff to see if there's any further improvement. So far it may have a helped a bit. But overall it's just a chemical solution and it can only do so much. If the engine gaskets/seals have become very worn they won't seal even if they become softened and or swollen from chemical additives.

A couple of months ago my college aged sons Suzuki XL-7 started leaking oil badly. {The vehicle has approximately 200,000 miles on it.} When he would pull up to a stop the smoke would roll out from under the car where the oil had leaked onto the exhaust. Rather embarrassing and stinky for a college kid with a girlfriend etc. The car is only worth about a thousand bucks and the repair shop said it was probably the rear main seal. I told him to try the White Shepherd Oil Stop Leak so he did with an oil change. After a day or two the leak had decreased to the point that it no longer smoked at every stoplight. If he gets a half a year or more out of it that would be good. I'm impressed.

I have a 2001 BMW X5 which developed a serious oil leak (everytime I stopped, there was a spot). I put a bottle of White Shepard in the oil and after a couple of days of driving, the oil leak was gone except for a small drop here or there. I put in another bottle and after driving for a 3 hrs, not a drop no where. The truck seems to be driving much better also, had white smoke out the back, now no more smoke. I am so pleased with this product, it really works. I'm telling everyone I can about it!!

Yes, this White Shepherd Oil Stop Leak - part# 49499 may work for your application as this oil leak sealer is useful in nearly any fluid oil system. Permanently repairs leaks by revitalizing old, shrunken and hardened rubber gaskets and seals. Not harmful to vehicle. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.
