    Comments about Beck/Arnley Thermo Fan Switch:

    This switch was purchased to replace the original Honda switch that had gone bad after 160k miles (94 Accord). The switch fits the water outlet to the top radiator hose, and will run the fan for 10 minutes after the engine is turned off, if the engine is overheated. According to the FSM, the switch should close at 217-228F.

    The Beck/Arnley switch closes at 194F. This is enough below specification that the fan runs _everytime_ the engine is shut off. This is an unnecessary drain on the battery. I returned the switch and traded it for another of with the same part number. The second switch tested to close at 205F. This is still not at factory specification, but is sufficiently high enough that the fan usually doesn't turn on. We're seeing 100F temperatures daily and the fan has only run once, a big improvement. Fortunately this switch is incredibly easy to replace. The biggest hassle was testing the actuation temperature.

    The o-ring provided with the switch is way too big. Honda specifies a 17.8 x 1.4mm oring. The switch came with one that's about 3mm width and it won't fit in the groove on the outlet. Instead it extrudes outward when the switch is tightened into place, preventing the switch from making metal on metal contact (as designed). I replaced the o-ring with one of the right size from an A/C oring kit I had laying around.

    Note- there is another switch on the _inlet_ side of the engine, that turns on the fan at 194-205F. That switch controls the fan when the engine is running, and is a different part number and thread size.
