    • Q:

Does this have grease with it or is it just meant as a protective boot?
Asked on 4/4/2014 by Drew from Saratoga Springs, NY

That's a great question, Drew! This is just a protective boot. As a rule steering rack boot does not come with grease, only CV joint boots come with grease do with the nature of the joint they protect.

    • Q:

Why wouldn't a garage replace these when they do the inner tie rod ends?
Asked on 4/4/2014 by Drew from Saratoga Springs, NY

      1 answer

I'm happy to help, Drew! I'm not sure what the garage in question had in mind when they were replacing your inner tie rod ends. My guess is that they felt that the boots were still in good shape and did not require replacing. I suggest asking the garage that did the work what their opinion was as to why they did not replace the steering rack boots.

is this what i need when i do my inner tie rods

Hi Mike, glad to assist you! Yes, the steering rack boot is a piece of rubber that is right where the tie rod goes into the gear box of the steering. It keeps dust from getting inside the box, which will eat up the seals and cause it to leak.
