I had nothing to loose as i got a $800 quote to fix.I had a internal coolant leak, bubbles in the overflow, smelling coolant , and idle was all over the place. Mechanic told me HEADGASKET..1996 Honda. You must follow the directions, I added 1/2 bottle to my radiator slowly and shook up bottle between pours. Started car and let it idle for about 20 min.Let sit for about a hour. Popped radiator cap off and filled with coolant. Car started kinda rough, but it immediatly cleared up and runs better than ever. I put 638 miles on it so far no problems. Follow the directions and this should take care of your problem.

Used it exactly as instructed on my 98 Subaru Legacy. It did nothing to correct the overheating problem, but it did noticeably clog the heater core. For the money, it seemed like a reasonable thing to try to get a month or two of normal driving before I come up with the money for repair. The first thing I noticed when I got into the car was that heater was blowing cold air. The car overheated some 5 minutes into my trip. As I was pulling over to let it cool, the upper radiator hose blew off. I had some coolant in the car, so I refilled and tightened the rad hose. Let the car cool for a bit, then turned around to go back, and the upper rad hose blew off again. The radiator cap was new from the dealer, so couldn't have been that. Definitely would NOT recommend this product, as my car was ok to drive short distances before I used it. Now I can't even drive it to the repair shop.

Comments about Bars Leak Head Gasket Fix (24 oz.):
This item will work just fine, IF you follow the directions and tweak them. My advice, flush the coolant system first, even if it was done last month or last year, period. Add fresh coolant, add the bars leak, add a little more coolant to near capacity, and let idle for 23 mins. The directions say 15 mins., 23 mins. worked for me. Be sure to monitor the coolant temp while the car is idling. Also, clean the spark plugs before you let the engine idle, so that it idles smoothly while this product does its job. It stopped the white smoke and coolant loss on my suz forenza, which are known to have bad head gaskets. The last thing that you should do before you drive the car any distance is to change the oil, regardless of when it was last done. I do not work for Bars, but I found the product very helpful in stopping my leak by following the directions, and going the extra mile to do some extra things.

I had white smoke from the tailpipe of my 07 suzuki, along with daily coolant loss. Follow the instructions to the T, and then go beyond that. It recommends that the coolant be flushed...my advice, do it, no matter when it was last done, even if 3 mos. ago. Flush the heater core, rad, the block, everything. Then add 1 gallon of fresh mixed antifreeze and if you have a 4 cyl., add about 40 to 45% of this bottle. Next, remove all of your spark plugs, clean them really good, clean the tubes (they probably have leaking fluids in them) and then reinstall the plugs. Check your oil level, and if cloudy, add some stp. Why? you want the engine to idle very well for 20 plus minutes. The instructions say 15, I did 25 mins. After about 12 mins, the white smoke disappeared. Monitor your temp guage and check to make sure you are getting high heat. When the engine is still warm, do an oil change while you are working on the car to get rid of the partially contaminated oil. Last step, check your spark plug tubes to see if they are dry, and then put new plugs in. I did this repair about 6 months ago (12,000 miles) and it has held up perfectly. My car and heater runs great. It took me about 90 mins total to flush my coolant, add this product to clean coolant, change my oil, and to clean, reinstall, and then finally replace my spark plugs. I do not work for Bars, but I know this product saved me a head gasket job.

Have a 2001 Ford Windstar, 3.8L V6 with 213K miles.
Started noticing an engine miss (especially when cold,) and a loss of about 20 ounces of coolant every 500 miles or so. Took it to my local mechanic. My engine light was one and showed a long term miss on cylinder #2. Took an exhaust probe and inserted it into my coolant reservoir and showed the presence of hydrocarbons (fuel.)
That's how he diagnosed the motor with a head gasket problem. He suggested me try BARS before going through the expense of a repair.
Let it idle for 20 minutes with the heater on and that was it.
Have put 500 miles on it so far and have no sign of coolant loss. The idle has tremendously improved as well.
Will update later down the road.

I have a 2002 Nissan Sentra that was showing symptoms of a small hole in the head gasket (losing coolant, no heat when car wasn't moving, etc.). Bought this hoping to squeak a few more months out of the Sentra. Followed the directions (put it in radiator, ran engine with heat on full for 20 minutes). Took the car out for a drive and after less than 10 minutes the thermostat on the dash indicated the engine was rapidly heating up. Pulled over let it cool down and limped it back home. Suspect the Bar's Head Gasket Fix, gummed up either the radiator, water pump, thermostat, heater core.. or ALL OF THE ABOVE. Using this product is like entering your vehicle in a game of Russian Roulette! Stay Away!
Comments about Bars Leak Head Gasket Fix (24 oz.):
2002 Nissan Sentra was losing coolant, likely small hole in headgasket (but no problems with overheating, etc.). Decided to give this a try as we wanted to hang on to this car a bit longer but didn't want to spend $1000 on a gead gasket job. Used this product as directed. Next day drove the car and the car started overheating within 5 minutes. Will have mechanic look at it but this stuff likely clogged up the water pump, radiator or both. Stay away.

I never would have thought that a liquid would stop a gasket problem. I had a cylinder 1 misfire code that could not get rid of for nothing. My car also would overheat after a couple of mins of driving. I took it to the shop and even the combustion test did not indicate head gasket. The mechanics took their time to see fluid was coming from spark plug 1. I added this and my misfire code went away and car stopped overheating!!!

Use properly and it will cure a leaking head gasket - not a cracked head or block. If it seals - it stays sealed under heavy towing with a 454 HD Truck for another 60k miles until sold it still running perfect

Comments about Bars Leak Head Gasket Fix (24 oz.):
I bought this for my Sebring after it overheated and the head gasket was allowing compression gas into the coolant system. I put it in with car having 133K miles and at 141K it is still working great. Much cheaper and probably better(since no break down of engine) for your wallet. We have taken the car on long trips with no problems. Give it a try! I carry antifreeze and a can of this with me on trips just in case.
Comments about Bars Leak Head Gasket Fix (24 oz.):
This is my first mechanic-in-a-bottle experience. My ex wife's Olds Silhouette had a head gasket leak. I'd normally just do it right, but time and money is tight for both of us right now.
I flushed the cooling system VERY thoroughly, and added the product with fresh 50/50 antifreeze mix. The instructions said to idle for 15 minutes and let cool completely. I repeated that (idle / cool) three times, wanting to start it off gently.
Three days and it's holding just fine. No overheating, no excessive pressure, no antifreeze blowing out and filling the overflow bottle, and the engine light (misfire code) went out. Keeping out fingers crossed. Wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it myself.

I have a 1997 Ford Expedition with 229k miles and has a blown head gasket and it is muddy looking in the coolant. Can you use this product to fix the problem.1 answer

Hi Ford, glad to assist you! This formulation contains a combination of antifreeze compatible sodium silicate sealing liquid and various size gasket sealing particles which penetrate gaps & cracks and harden to permanently stop leaks. This seals because of the extreme heat inside the combustion chamber (5000°F) that works as a catalyst to permanently harden the material to make it stronger than the actual head gasket itself. Your vehicle is a good candidate for this product if it can idle for 20 minutes without overheating or having to add coolant. Use on ALL water cooled gasoline and diesel engines. Heavy duty formula works on aluminum and cast iron heads & blocks, along with sealing all other engine cooling system leaks better than a traditional stop leak. This includes repairing head gaskets, cylinder heads, intake gaskets, cracked blocks and freeze plugs. Use with ALL types of 50-50 mix antifreeze including conventional yellow, orange, pink, red, blue and green silicate based & non-silicate based (OAT/HOAT) coolant, and/or water. Solution: Stops Block Leaks. Seals Cracked Cylinder Heads. Repairs Blown Head Gaskets.Q:

The instructions to use Bars Leak Head Gasket Fix (Part No. 1111) are as follows: 1. Allow engine to cool. Make sure engine is cool enough so radiator cap can be safely removed. 2. Shake well. Pour HEAD GASKET FIX directly into radiator. If using in a small cooling system under 1.5 gallon capacity, such as 4 cylinders with no air conditioning, install ½ bottle. Tip: If direct access to radiator is not available and if overflow tank is pressurized, you can install in tank. 3. Fill radiator and overflow tank to proper level and reinstall radiator cap. Start engine. 4. Turn heater on hot and fan on high. 5. Idle engine for 15 minutes. 6. Allow engine to cool. 7. Top off radiator and leave Bar’s Leaks HEAD GASKET FIX in cooling system for continued protection. Drive vehicle as normal. This Bars Leak Head Gasket Fix may help, but I would always recommend fixing the problem by finding out exactly the cause of leak and then replacing the necessary parts.
