I had nothing to loose as i got a $800 quote to fix.I had a internal coolant leak, bubbles in the overflow, smelling coolant , and idle was all over the place. Mechanic told me HEADGASKET..1996 Honda. You must follow the directions, I added 1/2 bottle to my radiator slowly and shook up bottle between pours. Started car and let it idle for about 20 min.Let sit for about a hour. Popped radiator cap off and filled with coolant. Car started kinda rough, but it immediatly cleared up and runs better than ever. I put 638 miles on it so far no problems. Follow the directions and this should take care of your problem.

Used it exactly as instructed on my 98 Subaru Legacy. It did nothing to correct the overheating problem, but it did noticeably clog the heater core. For the money, it seemed like a reasonable thing to try to get a month or two of normal driving before I come up with the money for repair. The first thing I noticed when I got into the car was that heater was blowing cold air. The car overheated some 5 minutes into my trip. As I was pulling over to let it cool, the upper radiator hose blew off. I had some coolant in the car, so I refilled and tightened the rad hose. Let the car cool for a bit, then turned around to go back, and the upper rad hose blew off again. The radiator cap was new from the dealer, so couldn't have been that. Definitely would NOT recommend this product, as my car was ok to drive short distances before I used it. Now I can't even drive it to the repair shop.

2001 Dakota 4.7L 200K.. #8 P0308 code. looked at the head gasket through the wheel well and saw a oil spot and Greenish film on the oil cap. and I have had to add both oil and coolant monthly but not excessive. bought the bar leak to try. and step by step it works, code went away and truck has restored power.. cheaper than a head gasket replacement and/or a new truck.I hope it holds for another yr or 2..

Comments about Bars Leak Head Gasket Fix:

I have a head gasket leak in my 02 Silverado....leaks gasses into the coolant only. Took months to finally find out what was causing the overheating issue- only when hot outside when driving for over 20 mins (can idle all day long and stay cool). I was quoted $1500 to repair, so thought an additive was worth a shot. Mechanic recommended Bar's copper, but I saw this was specific for head gaskets so spent the extra money. I followed instructions to the T and then drove for 100 mi...had to turn heat back on 20 mins in before I even got out of town...and it was 90 out. Going to try flushing system and using the copper that I was told to use in first place, then changing out radiator as that has tiny seepage and air not flowing through it. Will update under that one tonight.

I added a bottle to my radiator on a 2001 Olds Intrigue. Both heads had slow coolant leaks at the head gasgets, but not into the cylinders. The leak was about 1 gallon every 3K miles and increasing. BarsLeaks stopped both leaks after 15 minutes. One bad side effect was it clogged my heater core. Engine temperature is normal. Still no problems after 120 miles. I'm waiting a couple weeks to flush the fluid and back flush the heater core. Hopefully I won't have to change out the heater core. Still that is much cheaper and less time than a complete head gasget overall. Bottom line I'd buy it again.

Hi Chief1cutter, the Bars Leak Head Gasket Fix (Part No. 1111) formulation contains a combination of antifreeze compatible sodium silicate sealing liquid and various size gasket sealing particles which penetrate gaps & cracks and harden to permanently stop leaks. This seals because of the extreme heat inside the combustion chamber (5000°F) that works as a catalyst to permanently harden the material to make it stronger than the actual head gasket itself. Your vehicle is a good candidate for this product if it can idle for 20 minutes without overheating or having to add coolant. Use on ALL water cooled gasoline and diesel engines. Heavy duty formula works on aluminum and cast iron heads & blocks, along with sealing all other engine cooling system leaks better than a traditional stop leak. This includes repairing head gaskets, cylinder heads, intake gaskets, cracked blocks and freeze plugs. Use with ALL types of 50-50 mix antifreeze including conventional yellow, orange, pink, red, blue and green silicate based & non-silicate based (OAT/HOAT) coolant, and/or water.

Hello, I tried this today on my 91 camry 4 cyl 118k. My mechanic told me to use some no smoke at each oild change but, it doesn't seem to last. I get white smoke on start up that disappears after a few minutes. I followed the directions on the bottle and used half. Now my heat runs cool instead of sweltering like usual. No overheating ever, had new fluid and radiator was replaced a year ago. Any insight? Did I clog the heater core with this? Is that temporary?
