I installed a Autocraft Silver automotive battery in my 2001 Windstar back in 2007 after the factory battery kicked the bucket. Last week I left the back lid open on the van for about 30 minutes to load some stuff up becasuse I was going out of town.

After I got my 2 dogs loaded up and was ready to leave I tried to crank the van and no go!! I thought what the HEY! 30 minutes isn't that long.

Luckly my neighbor was out working on one of his hunk of junks in his driveway so he offered to gave me a jump. I figured by the time I arrivied at my destination the battery would be charged up and I shouldn't have any more problems.

Well that wasn't the case after letting the van sit for a couple of days it was time for me to load the dogs up and get out of there and head back home.
Dogs in the van huffing and puffing lets go!! lets go!!

I Said my fair wells to the out - Laws and got in the van and NOTHING! Man we were ready to go.. Two days with the in Laws was about all me and the dogs could handle. Please don't let there be anything else wrong with my FORD!

I had thrown the jumper cables in the back before I left my house just in case, Glad I did now! Got a jump from the father in law and off we went.

I was afraid to stop on the way home this time to let the boys out and take care of business, so the poor guys was about to bust by the time I backed into the drive way back at home. I got out and opened the back lid on the van it was like 2 bolts of lighting streaking past me.

The first thing after unloading the van was to find a reasonable priced battery. So of course I got on the internet and started my search.

I won't mention any other companies here but I searched near and far and came to Advance Auto Parts web site and found the 15% off $50.00+ the $25 offer. There batteries weren't the cheapest in town but pretty close and with the offers on the website it made them in the ball park for my wallet. So I joined the Advance Auto Parts website and purchased the Autocraft Silver battery online.

Like I said way back up at the top of this review I had put the Autocraft Silver battery in the van in 2007. (That's 6 years ago) I'm sure I had to buy it at Advance Auto Parts back then, can't remember that far back though.

So I jumped in the van to go pick it up, the store is just down the street from the house and boom I had to look for another jump. Neighbor again save the day.

Finally made it to the store and went in side, they were pretty busy that day so I had to wait for a few minutes. I started talking to a man that was in front of me and he was there for the same problem. He was going to get his battery checked. Advance does that for FREE for there customers or any body I guess?

I thought that might be a good Idea to have mine checked just to make sure it was the battery. So one of the Assoicates a young lady went to the parking lot with me and the other man and checked both batteries. His was dead but, mine said it needed to be charged.

Now I started to get worried. Could it be the alternator or something more serious?

Well the young lady and I talked about it for a little while and discussed the battery and how old it was. 6 years is a pretty long time for a battery but we still couldn't figure out why it stated it needed to be charged.

So I decided to go the cheapest way and go ahead and try the new Autocraft Silver battery. The young lady offered to install it for me but I told her I would do it. She offered there cart and tools but I brought my own tools too.

After I installed the new Autocraft Silver battery She brought her tester back out and checked it again. This time she everything checked out just fine Alternator and all.

I'm here to tell you that did the trick I've had no problems so far, the van cranks right up every time I want to go. Good Choice!! Glad I went back with the Autocraft Silver.

I really thought I was going to have to sink more money into that van and I didn't want to. If you know what I mean? If you have ever watched that movie Money Pit, well my van is just that. I bought it brand new right off the show room floor and I probably have paid for it twice over now because of the problems I've had with it.

I have to say the customer service was pretty darn good down at Advance Auto Parts that day. I don't know if I got lucky or hopefull there like that all the time I don't go in very often. I really liked the young lady taht helped me. She knew her stuff and wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty.

Oh yea, The other man that was there checking on his battery. He needed a new one too and I talked him into getting one there too. I think he might of bought a Silver as well not sure about that though.

Over all, My experince that day made it a little more pleasent spending the $100 bucks+ Which I didn't want to spend in the first place. But Hey, you got to do what you got to do. I wouldn't want to be stranded on I95 nor 495 on the beltway in DC with a dead battery. That's the route I was taking that day. Really glad that didn't happen!

Michael

Didn't work for me... TWO OF THEM!

I've had two of these batteries (10/2011, 20,2013). The first failed within the 24-month "free" replacement period. The breakdown cost me a bundle.

So, off to my local Advance store I went (thank you AAA)and they gladly replaced my battery with a new one. I figured like my original battery, this one should last for at least four or five years. WRONG!

It's only six months later and the "new" replacement battery is shot... having left me with a dead battery and no way to get going several times. I missed very important doctor appointments/treatments, along with other meetings that were tightly packed into a couple of days. I had no break to get to my mechanic (thinking it had to be something else, and not the battery).

Sure enough I finally got to my mechanic's, and he tested my entire system. It's the battery. He also mentioned that he stopped selling Autocraft (Silver) batteries to his customers for the same reason - the high degree of defective batteries, in the area of 15% return rate.

So, I'm off to Advance again, as the manager has said he will upgrade me to a Gold battery, no charge, with a new warranty to start. While it's little compensation for what I've been through because of these defective batteries, It's something.

In all honesty I can say that Advance's staff, both in their stores AND online, have been phenomenol whenever I've had a problem - taking care of me to the hilt. However, I'd simply rather not have the problems at all. But if one is going to have a bad battery day, ya can't do better than the folks at Advance - an example for all the others to follow.

I drive 5 days a week to and from the VA hospital for work from my home in Kendall. This new battery is great. My car starts immediately. I had previously purchased my old battery from the same store and was impossible to remove (the cables were stuck). An employee went out of his way to cut and install new battery cables in order to fit the new battery. His name was Marc and he deserves acknowledgement from Management for his customer service.

Time will tell. This replaces the last one same exact battery that I bought 5 1/2 years ago. Store said they could not adjust for the 72 month prorated portion because I ordered it online for pickup at store? Would have saved me about 10 more bucks.

There is not much to say about a new battery other than Hooray when the vehicle starts, but I'd like to point out how easy the online purchasing is. The staff took care of me immediately when I arrived, the credit for the Core was handled online- all in all a very good experience and a great discount for puchasing online.

PowerFrame provides superior starting performance over the life of the battery with up to 70% better electrical flow than other grid technologies. what is the warranty period on this battery ?
Asked on 10/31/2011 by JACK from 20141

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

This battery has 24 months free replacement and 72 months prorated as warranty. Your free replacement period begins the day you purchase the battery, and expires at the end of the "Free Replacement Period" printed on your Order Invoice and Order Confirmation email, or when you sell your vehicle, whichever occurs first. When a battery is replaced during the "Free Replacement Period", the warranty does not renew, it continues on from the original date of purchase.
The prorated purchase price of any battery listed above, which becomes defective after the lapse of the "Free Replacement Period", and prior to the end of the warranty period, will be either credited toward the purchase of another battery, or refunded at our option. The amount of the proration shall be determined by dividing the purchase price by the number of months of the warranty period, and then multiplying the result by the number of months remaining in the warranty period. (Any partial months will be rounded to the nearest whole month). When a battery is replaced after the "Free Replacement Period" and a prorated fee is paid, the warranty starts from that date as a new purchase.
