Great battery

Powerful battery. A handle would make installation much easier not to mention carrying it out of the store. Side mount and top mount access points are nice for charging. Overall, good product.

Comments about AutoCraft Silver Battery, Group Size 34/78, 800 CCA:

I purchased the battery on August 2015, eight (8) months layer battery died, extremely disappointed. Went back to advance auto parts in New Windsor NY expecting them to give me the run around and tell me there is nothing wrong with the battery. Employee at advance auto parts was very honest and stated it was a defective battery. Will never buy autocraft again.

I purchased the battery August 2015, battery died 8 months later. Went to advance auto parts in New Windsor NY thinking they are going to give me the run around and tell me it's not the battery and it's the alternator or a electrical shortage in my truck, employee was honest and told me the battery was defective. Extremely disappointed in the battery.

Comments about AutoCraft Silver Battery, Group Size 34/78, 800 CCA:

I purchased this battery and it failed after 1 year(a battery should last 5-8 years).
I exchanged it for a new one and IT failed after 1 year (dead as a doornail 0.00 volts and wouldn't take a charge).
I exchanged it for a third one and installed it in my truck. It cranked slowly.
I put a voltage meter on it and it read 11.9V (should be around 13V fully charged).
I put it on a charger and it read 60% charge...this is a brand new battery, it should be fully charged.
After talking to the gentleman at the store, he told me they have been having issues with the combo (top and side post) batteries and suggested getting the other style next time.
Thankfully I have my 8 year old back up battery which still works fine. I now keep it in the back of my truck so when my new battery fails I won't be stranded.

Bought the 34/78 800 CCA on 12/10/2013. Two years and one month later the battery is no good. Tested by Auto Zone where I bought it. The warranty is free replacement for two years. So therefore, I am SOL. Awful funny how it went bad right after the warranty expired. Not very happy at all.

Even though the battery specs to this battery are great, this does not fit the 2002 Dodge Caravan with OEM terminals. If you want to use this battery, you will have to replace the terminal cables and ends with new ones.

                • Q:

I originally bought an autocraft gold, it had a 3 yr free replacement 84 month prorated. It is 4 months from being 3 yrs. After 2 trips to the store they finally decided it was defective it wouldn't hold a charge. It was replaced with a silver that was their decision. I end up with a 4 month warranty and 0 month prorated. So if this one is defective and it messes up in 5 months I'm gonna have to purchase another one. You would think that you would at least get a 1 yr warranty. I mean the PRODUCT was defective.I understand if you have people returning things all the time that you have to have guidelines, but you keep records of this type of thing. What of the customers who are valued customers.

                    A:

Hi Grams, happy to help you! Per our limited warranty policy the battery free replacement period begins the day of purchase and expires at the end of the free replacement period that is printed on your original sales receipt. This period does not renew when the battery is replaced during the free replacement period. If the battery is found defective after the free replacement period but prior to the end of the warranty period, a prorated credit will be issued that can be applied toward the purchase of a new battery. The prorated credit will be determined by dividing the original purchase price by the number of months of the warranty period, then multiplying the result by the months remaining in the warranty period. Partial months are rounded to the nearest whole month. Installation or use of an automotive battery in any other type of vehicle or equipment voids your warranty. The Autocarft Silver battery is a quality line of product like the Gold and I'm sure you will not have any issues in the near future. If at all there is an issue you can always contact us at: 1-877-ADVANCE (238-2623) and one of our representatives will be glad to assist you a resolution.

This battery (part no. 78/34-4) used to be 'Gold', not 'Silver'. That means the free replacement period is reduced from 3 to 2 years. Does that mean you've been seeing problems with early failures? I bought one a couple of years ago when it was Gold. I need a new battery for a different vehicle, and am dissapointed and concerned that this same battery is now labeled 'Silver' - like it's not holding up as was expected. :(

On 11/8/2012 I asked the following question:

                  "What does "maintenance free" mean?"

                  Steve from AAP said:

""Maintenance Free" batteries are sealed and do not require topping up with distilled water because the electrolyte level does not change because they do not produce much gas. Advantage of maintenance free battery eliminates the need to add water and minimizes corrosion in the battery terminal posts."

OK. So if these batteries are "sealed and do not require topping up," then why did Vincent from AAP say on 1/12/2012 "to check the water level during the hot months of summer..."?

Please don't ask me to call in. I'd like to see a resolution to this confusion posted in the Questions on your website. Thanks.

                    A:

Sorry for any confusion caused. Most of the maintenance free batteries are sealed and do not require topping. However there are few maintenance free batteries with removable vent caps as well. This AutoCraft Gold Battery, Group Size 34/78, 800 CCA - Part No. 34/78-4 is one such. Most customers will never need to add water to their maintenance-free batteries. In fact, the vast majority of batteries don't even allow you to check the fluid levels anymore. But if your maintenance-free battery does have removable caps, there is certainly no harm in removing them and adding water if the fluid happens to be low. For any further assistance please feel free to call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto store and one of our representatives will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

"Maintenance Free" batteries are sealed and do not require topping up with distilled water because the electrolyte level does not change because they do not produce much gas. Advantage of maintenance free battery eliminates the need to add water and minimizes corrosion in the battery terminal posts.
