Comments about AutoCraft Power Steering Pump/Alternator Pulley Puller:

It worked at removing my power steering pulley, which is about all I can say for it. Requires assembling, lining up the jaw bolts and the jaw adjustment bolts just right, otherwise you may damage the front flange of the pulley like I did (that was my own fault though, not the tool's). The bolts for adjusting the jaw tightness should be thumbscrews but it's hex bolts. Luckily I had the correct size allen wrench at home already. These bolts are also really thin, and bend when tightening past a certain angle. Again, however, it worked, so no complaint. HOWEVER, it does NOT reinstall your pulley! I had to go back to the store to get item 648605 which is a remover AND installer. Will review that one after I put the pulley on.

Comments about AutoCraft Power Steering Pump/Alternator Pulley Puller:

I chose the product based on price. I work as a Carpenter but I am a do it yourselfer. I had the same problem as the other gentleman of the tool kept slipping off. I found by adding a pair of vise grips over the sleeve helped to hold the two halves together. Also make sure you have some heavy duty tools. I used a piece of 3 and half foot long by 2 and a half inch wide steel pipe to hold wrench and a half inch drive torque wrench with a 16-18 inch handle for leverage and it was quite difficult still. Would have been easier with a helper. Also you will have to run the entire bolt in it takes a while. I was also disappointed in finding out I needed a pulley installer also...

Comments about AutoCraft Power Steering Pump/Alternator Pulley Puller:

The product did not work. Kept slipping off. Plus the Clerk at the Advance Auto parts said that it will also Install the New Pulley, which of course it is NOT designed to do. But I was able to buy one that did Both from Harbor Freight. How do i return the Puller that does Not Work for a refund ?

        • Q:

I have a 1979 Ford F150 and need to remove the power steering pulley. The pulley does not have the std application on the front to remove it but I have to get something that will grab the 6 inch pulley from the back and use the center bolt assembly on the tool to turn down it until the pressed pulley slides off. I was orginally looking at the tool AC582/W84501 which has the 6 inch jaws. What tool do you recommend?

            A:

Unfortunately we do not have a right pulley removing tool that fits a 1979 Ford F-150. However I would recommend that you check with the nearest Advance Auto store and our representative would be glad to assist you with the right tool for pulley removal in your vehicle.
