I installed this battery in a Actioncraft/Coastal Bay sportfishing boat with a 175 hp Evinrude
O/B motor. In addition, I need 12 volt battery power for a VHF radio, Lowrance GPS/fishfinder,
Power Pole, livewell pumps, etc....and then to have power to start the O/B several time during the day to move to another fishing spot.
With a 1000 marine cranking amps and 800 cold cranking amps this battery has the power I need.

    Comments about AutoCraft Marine / RV 12-Volt Starting Battery, Group Size 24M, 800 CCA:

    Purchased battery online for local pickup for 4/19/2015. Battery was for project boat. First battery had sat on store shelf for a year and would not hold charge. Exchanged it a week later. Boat was never launched but engine was run 10-15hrs for maintanence. Boat was last started on 4/18/2016, and battery operated fine. Went to start it on 4/21/16, and battery would not turn engine over. Took it back to local store to have it checked out. Counter rep said it needed charge, and put it on their machine. Got a call an hour later stating that it needed to be replaced. Called AA corprorate, and they said that it was out of warranty by 2 days and that there was nothing they could do. They did offer 10% off a new battery. I maintain 8 vehicles and have spent an average of $150 a month with Advance Auto Parts. No more, I will take my business elsewhere.

        I purchased battery 4/19/2015 online, picked up local store same day. Boat is a projeft, never saw water, used maybe 10hr run time while situating motor. Started right up 4/17/2016.
        Went to start motor today 4/21/2016, battery was low and cranked engine for 1 revolution. Pulled battery and took to store where picked up to be checked/charged. Received a call an hour later saying battery is shot and must be replaced. They cannot help as order placed online. Will update post when customer service is open.

        Installed this battery in a new bass boat with a 250 HP motor in October 2012. I use this boat 12 month a year. Still going strong after 3 years. I fish tournaments, so this battery also runs live well pumps, 2 lowrance depth finder, and other electronics on the boat.

        I have purchased 6 of these Autocraft marine batteries over the years for my 3 boats and for a friends boat, and have had no problems. I maintain them keeping a full charge during storage using a battery tender charger or fully auto charger with deep cycle setting.
        Will troll all day, and still have power.

          This product only made it 18 months. Used quite a few times a month. When not in use was put on a charger 24/7. When you buy junk for a rv spend the doe and get a good battery, or buy some very long jumper cables

          Research reveals: This particular battery had the best specs and was priced competitively with brands available at other retailers, given 800 CCA.
          Car batteries with same or lesser specifications cost more. Hence, marine type bought for old Mazda B2600 pickup truck, that sits weeks not in use before starting.
          Thus far found Advance offers @ least all below buy mthods, each yielding different price.
          What a circus, but gets best price.
          1. Walk into store & buy. Pay full price.
          2. Online Chat offered 20% off.
          3. Pop up coupon offered 20% off.
          4. Usual home page promos on site vary, change & were less off @ time bought.
          5. Call 877-238-2623. Pleasent lady offered 30% discount, pickup @ store with free install. This was also lowest price avenue in Feb. 2015 when truck parts were bought. Lady was asked to compare my truck battery tray size to M24-3, to see if will fit? She could do that & said will fit.
          ===============
          Mystrey is why batteries listed for cars/trucks with similar or lesser specs, cost more than this marine battery? But truck motor 2.6 litre only knows if getting current needed to start. Marine label-who cares? Do not yet know how long will last.
          ===========
          Note this is Marine starting battery & not deep cycle.

                Just got this battery, but it cranked my boat engine much better than the previous battery. It was good to find a marine starting battery, vice dual purpose battery. This battery has very high cold cranking amps for the price. I've been happy with it so far, but real test of a battery is how it performs over time. Very happy to get the marine terminals and high amps with a $25 discount. I gave it four stars, but this battery could earn a fifth star if it proves to be reliable. It is my one and only battery on my boat.

                        A:

                        Hi Craig, happy to help you! There is no direct correlation between CCA and amp-hours, because starting batteries are not designed for slow periods of deep discharge. Engine starting batteries are rated in cranking amps. The standard BCI CCA rating is at 0 degs. F (about -18C) whereas Marine Cranking Amps are at 32 degs. F (0 degs.C). Engine starting batteries are designed to provide a heavy surge current of as much as 200 amps for a period of 5-10 secs. Deep cycle batteries are generally rated in amp-hours at a C/20 discharge rate, which means 1/20 of the battery capacity for 20 hours until the battery reaches 1.75 volts per cell. Actual capacity will vary with temperature, the size of the load and the rate of discharge. A faster discharge rate or a heavy load which exceeds C/10 reduces the capacity much more quickly. In determining the battery capacity needed good engineering practice is to sum all equipment loads, times operating duty cycle in percent, times a 150 percent safety factor. Deep cycle batteries used in UPS and telecommunication applications are rated in reserve capacity, which is the number of minutes the battery will maintain a constant 25A load at 80 degs. F until voltage drops to 1.75 volts per cell. To provide an approximate conversion to amp-hours, multiply reserve capacity by 0.6. For Ex: A Group 30 Battery rated for 225 minutes RC approximates 135 amp-hours. Assuming a 20% SSB duty cycle, such a battery powers a 100watt HF rig for 12-hour duty shift in typical contest or net control operation including a 50% safety factor.

                        Happy to help you with your question George! To answer honestly how long the battery will last will vary on the load on the battery. The battery does have a reserve capacity of 135 minutes, so it will put out 25 amps for that time until it drops below 10.5 volts, and the battery will need charging, so keep that in mind.

                      I'm confused. Autocraft sells different batteries of 12V, Size 24M -- one is a "Starting Battery" with 800 CCA, and the other is a "Deep Cycle Battery" with 550 CCA. But, in the comments for the starting battery, someone responds that all Autocraft marine batteries, including the starting battery, are deep cycle batteries. So, then, if the starting battery is a deep cycle, what's the difference between the two??

                        Happy to answer your question Charles! If your manual advises you not to use a deep cycle battery then this battery will not work for you as our marine batteries are deep cycle battery. You may need to use a car starting battery to start the engine and a separate deep cycle battery for the speaker system.

                        According to this battery's label it should work just fine because it is LABELED as a starting battery and NOT a deep cycle battery.Deep cycle batteries should be used for trolling motors and such.

                      I have a 1990 90hp 4 cylinder Johnson Outboard motor. I also have a trolling motor as well. The boat is not setup for dual charging.

                      My question is this specific battery ok for starting as the manual says 335cca. Is this battery size overkill for this outboard. Second I need a battery for trolling as well. What would you recommend.

                      Thanks
                      John L

                        A:

                        I'm glad to assist, John! This Autocraft Marine / RV 12-Volt Starting Battery, Group Size 24M, 800 CCA (Part No. M24-3) will start your 1990 Johnson Outboard 90HP 4 cylinder engine. Although it has more than enough CCA for your purposes, it will not have any negative effect due to the increased cold cranking amps.

                        Any one of our Autocraft Marine / RV 12-Volt Deep Cycle, such as Part No. 27HM, 24DC-1, 29HM, 27DC-2, 24DC-2 or 8AU1, batteries will run a trolling motor. The size of the trolling motor could help to better determine the battery size necessary to provide the maximum operating time without being heavier or more expensive than necessary.
