Have had 2 in a mixed bank with West Marine batteries. These held up, the WM are dead. Even though the two are still good (going strong), they are 4 years old (longer than warranty), so just bought 8 batteries to build new bank twice the size of the original. Just stay on top with maintenance, and they're good. No complaints!

Seems ok so far

1 year warranty, so if it does not hold up, I will return it.

Comments about Autocraft Marine / RV 12-Volt Deep Cycle Battery, Group Size 27, 600 CCA:

I purchased this battery less than two years ago, with a manufacture date of 5/13. It received only light seasonal use to start my outbooard motor and was kept on a float trickle charger in the off-season. Depite this, when I checked it this morning (4/18/15) it was dead and would not take a charge. Although it outlived its warranty, it did not measure up to any batteries that I have used before. I'll be looking at other brands to replace it. Bummer. I was looking forward to going out in the boat, but since Dowling Park, FL is in the middle of nowhere, I can't get a battery on a moment's notice.

I bought 2 of these batteries to try on my 1 kw solar power bank and these batteries only lasted for 18 months and both developed a dead cell on the positive side port. One developed a dead cell on the first + cell and the other developed a dead cell in the second + cell. These batteries were monitored and charged with a mppt charger and never discharged less than 70%

Comments about Autocraft Marine / RV 12-Volt Deep Cycle Battery, Group Size 27, 600 CCA:

In 2011 I purchased two of these batteries for use in parallel as power for my home's back-up sump pump, as recommended by my pump's specs. Three years later I finally discovered that my back-up pump's inverter had stopped functioning because one of these two batteries was completely empty of electrolyte while the other one had stopped holding a charge. Yes, it's possible that the empty battery may've been mistakenly sold to me that way and that the two being connected in parallel as they were may've degraded the one full battery over time, I'll never know for sure. But in May 2014 I nevertheless decided to go ahead and replace both batteries with identical units (making SURE they were both serviced this time), completed the installation, and they appear to be functioning great at this point. So we'll see. I check them daily. Can't beat the price though.

Happy to answer your question Slapshot! You are correct the AH (amp hour) rating is at 20amps. We where able to find out that for deep cycle batteries 20 amps is the standard that they measure amp hours.

You mention that this battery is rated at 115AH, HOW IS THAT DETERMINED? Also is this battery maintenance free?
Asked on 6/17/2015 by J.R. from Lake Worth Fla.

                        • A:

If the battery does not show an actual tested amp hour rating on it, I wouldn't believe 115 is accurate. Group size cannot be tied directly to the amp hour rating. Now, the battery does show an actual rated reserve capacity of 160. If you follow a very basic rule of thumb that says you multiply that value by .467 (or simply divide the number by 2) you'll come out with probably a much more realistic estimate of around 75 to 80 amp hours for this battery.

Happy to help you with your question JR! The AMP Hour Rating is based off group size. The Group size for this battery is 27. The battery is indeed maintenance free, it does have caps on the top but those are meant to vent gas. Any refilling done to the battery will create imbalances with the acid/electrolyte mixture and reduce the life of the battery.

Many thanks for the idea of limiting low voltage to 50% at 12.06V. Would that 12.06V be when at rest, or during active use? I notice it dips 1/4 to 1/3 of a volt when in use, then gains most of it back when at rest.

I'm happy to help, Mitch! The measurement of 12.06V would be taken while the battery is in use.

I just purchased this battery for my sub pump back up system. When I hooked it up the sub pump monitor it indicated that water needed to be added to the battery. How much water should be added to the battery. I do not see any markings to indicate each of the six cells are full. Should water need to be added to a new battery so sone?

I'm happy to help, Need help! Typically, a new battery should not require additional water right away. Although, charging the battery could cause those levels to go down. When adding distilled water to this Autocraft Marine / RV 12-Volt Deep Cycle Battery (Part No. 27DC-2) make sure to fill above the top of the plates and below the bottom of the vent well or splash barrel. This battery should keep your sump pump system working for years to come.

I've heard you can damage a deep cycle battery if you run it too low. Would a "low voltage cutoff" device prevent damage to this battery, and set to what voltage cutoff?

I'm happy to help, Mitch! To retain maximum life on your Autocraft Marine / RV 12-Volt Deep Cycle Battery (Part No. 27DC-2), discharging to 50% will produce the best lifespan to cost benefit. These batteries are capable of handling up to an 80% discharge. A low voltage cutoff device could certainly help you to prevent premature failure of your battery. The voltage of a 50% discharged 12V lead-acid battery will be appoximately 12.06V and 11.58V when at an 80% dishcharge.
