This was recommended for starting my boat [...] After less than 2 seasons it has died. I kept a trickle charge on it during the winter. Put it in the boat last week for boating season and it would not start. Had it fully charged and still nothing. Took it in and was determined to be a bad cell. Less than two years is all you will get out of this one as a starting battery. I used it for just to crank up my 140 hp I/O boat. Could have been mis-applied (better for a trolling motor), but it was the recommended battery for my application. [...]

Got this for my boat and it worked great. The only bad thing I can find about it is that it only has a one year warranty, and when I bought is it was already five months old. I'll have to see how long it lasts.

This is for my trolling motor. I was going to buy online and pick up in store. At the last minute I did a Google search for Advance Auto Parts coupon and used a code that knocked of another $33.60. With store pick up and returning an old battery the final price was $68.02!

I use this battery to power a 12v 2100gph bilge pump for gold prospecting. No problems with the battery so far. This battery holds a good charge and can run my bilge pump for long periods of time without needing to be recharged. I've never ran the battery completely dead, even after running the bilge pump on this fully charged battery for 8 hours straight. I'm sure that it would last many hours longer if I needed it too. So far I am very pleased with my purchase of this advance auto parts brand battery.

This battery was a replacement for our original deep cycle marine battery on our travel trailer. I haven't had it long enough to comment on how long it lasts or how well it holds a charge but I can say the installation was easy and it is an exact fit.

I neglected to check the date code before I purchased this Marine deep cycle battery. The thing is produced 9 months before I bought it and with a stingy 12 mos warranty I felt like I have been given a 3 month warranty. Time will tell if this thing makes it through 1 boating season but I am already unhappy Advance Auto Parts would put a 9 month old battery on the shelf for people to purchase.

IT'S hard for me to understand why the warranty on this battery is only one year, and no pro ratting. You could buy a car battery, put some terminal lugs on and have a batery warranted for 5years.This is the second battery and the last I will buy with a one year warranty.

I'd be happy to help you with that! You would need a Deep Cycle battery. I would recommend an Optima Marine AGM battery because they hold up a lot better than flooded batteries.

I'm going to use this battery on a 30# thrust trolling motor to move my 16' sailboat down a short canal, 10 - 15 minutes out, same back. How can I determine if the battery would need recharging after each trip? I have available an older 6 amp battery charger. Would this be suitable? Would leaving it charging over night be too much?
Asked on 8/9/2014 by Dan from United States

                    • CUSTOMER CARE

                      A:

I'm glad to assist, Dan! This battery should provide approximately 58 amp hours of use. This of course will depend on the actual amp draw of your trolling motor. Based on this you should not need to recharge the battery for 1 round trip. Your charger may work well for a quicker recharge of the battery. It may be better for you to obtain a trickle or float charger. Another great option that can provide you even more use and at a generally economical price would be an automatic charger such as Part No. PS-1562A, PSC-15AOB or SSC-1000A. There are others as well that you may want to look at.

Overnight on the 6 amp charger may be too much for your deep cycle battery, especially with that small of a discharge.

                      A:

I'm happy to help, George! The average float voltage for a 12-volt lead-acid battery is 13.4 volts. Most trickle chargers have a setting at 1.5 to 2 amps to keep the charge in the battery when not in use.

A great option would be a automatic charger such as Part No. PS-1562A, PSC-15AOB or SSC-1000A. There are others as well that you may want to look at.

                      A:

I'm happy to help, Dan! That will depend upon how deeply the battery is discharged as to how long it will take to charge. Based on the specifications of this Autocraft Marine/RV 12-Volt Deep Cycle Battery 24M 550CCA, your 2 amp charge may take about 29-30 hours to recharge the battery. An automatic battery charger can help a lot with charging your battery properly and quickly, such as Schumacher Part No. SC-600A or Part No. SSC-1000A.
