This was recommended for starting my boat [...] After less than 2 seasons it has died. I kept a trickle charge on it during the winter. Put it in the boat last week for boating season and it would not start. Had it fully charged and still nothing. Took it in and was determined to be a bad cell. Less than two years is all you will get out of this one as a starting battery. I used it for just to crank up my 140 hp I/O boat. Could have been mis-applied (better for a trolling motor), but it was the recommended battery for my application. [...]

IT'S hard for me to understand why the warranty on this battery is only one year, and no pro ratting. You could buy a car battery, put some terminal lugs on and have a batery warranted for 5years.This is the second battery and the last I will buy with a one year warranty.

Comments about Autocraft Marine / RV 12-Volt Deep Cycle Battery, Group Size 24M, 550 CCA:

I purchased this battery based on the cost versus the specified performance as the second of two batteries in a dual battery setup for a travel trailer. The primary use for this battery is during the fall and winter hunting seasons when the outdoor temperatures are 10-45 degrees F. The reserve battery time is very close to my actual experience in the field and this kept all the 12 volt electrical appliances in the trailer for cooking, lighting, and the heater blower running intermittently for two nights.

Hi Adam, that's actually a serious question! Always charge a battery in a well ventilated area. Because, all lead acid batteries contain sulfuric acid which can cause severe burns and can generate explosive gases. Even a maintenance free battery has vents to relieve the internal gases that build up inside the battery. Even though they look like sealed units, acid can still escape should the battery be tipped over or even over charged. Cover the vent cap area with a wet cloth to prevent sparks from igniting escaping gases.

Any issue with using for auto?
Cold cranking amps are sufficient to engine in truck.
Reason for use: Truck sits for 2-3 months not used or started.
Deep cycle designed for discharge & recharge, unlike auto battery.
This marine battery cost is $75 compared to $105 & up for auto battery.

                          • Q:

Putting on a trolling motor pushing a canoe, how long should I expect it to last and what charger is recommended and how long does recharging take. Assume that unlike a cell phone battery, charging before it is dead does not shorten the time it needs to be recharged.

The duration/charging interval for a Autocraft Marine / RV 12-Volt Deep Cycle Battery, Group Size 24M, 550 CCA - Part No. 24DC-1 depends on the usage. You can recharge the battery once it has reached the 50% of discharge. A 3 or 5 amp 12v battery charger would be compatible to charge a Group 24 Battery. I have a single battery boat, 115hp Johnson. I need to start the boat and while fishing, run the live well and lights. Is this a good battery for what I need.
