I wanted something with highest CA and CCA for my '03 Mitsubishi Eclipse GTS, and although the correct size, I went with higher CA and CCA due to having a very low drain from a top-notch security system on car and with cold winters and very hot summers where I lived, not going with the 'factory recommendations', upgrading to this was affordable and Shawna at Parson's Ave. Store in Columbus, OH knows her stuff, load-testing my system to make sure nothing else was bad. Kudos!

Comments about AutoCraft Gold Battery, Group Size 86, 640 CCA:

I bought one of these to replace a 5 year old factory battery in 2012. It had only been in 2 years when it started failing to hold a charge more than a few hours. I took it to my local advance store and after they charged it they agreed that it had a problem. It was still under the replacement warranty and they exchanged it. The replacement has been in 23 months and is now starting to fail as well. It has the same problem as the other. It will charge but has a problem holding charge. I fully charged the Advance battery and let it set on my workbench ,and in 3 days it was dead. I installed a different brand battery in my car and had no issues with the battery going down. I have always gotten good service from the Autocraft batteries in the past , but , 2 duds in a row are not a very good incentive to keep buying them.I don't know if they've changed suppliers or if it is some manufacturing flaw, but the reliability of this product seems to have gone downhill.

My car was beginning to crank slower so I knew it was time to replace the battery. It also had some corrosion build up. Checked online with the store near my home & had the silver or gold available. Bought it online and stopped in. I thought I bought the gold battery last time but it was the silver! So the silver lasted at least 3 years in hot humid florida. I ordered the gold using online discounts & they installed the new battery for me. Started great and hope it lasts another 3-4 years. Great service!

Perfect fit to replace AC Delco battery in my C6 Vette (slightly taller, but not a problem).

Only concern was that new battery posts are tapered preventing the cable ends from going all the way down (even after spreading clamps)

Looking for a bettery for an 03 Eclipse. Currently have a group 86 battery in my car, actually Autocraft gold. Webpage is reccomending an 86-1, Group 86, Silver. When I manually sellect an 86-2, Group 86, Gold webpage states battery does not fit my vehicle. Shouldn't the 86-2 Gold fit? Is this just a catalog error?

I'm happy to help, JohnEastCoast! This Autocraft Gold Battery (Part No. 86-2) and all Gold, Silver and Economy or red label Autocraft batteries are conventional/low-maintenance batteries. The Autocraft Platinum and Optima batteries are AGM. Optima batteries utilize spiral-cell AGM technology which provides 15x the vibration resistance of a conventional battery and a stronger starting burst.

Your warranty begins the day you purchase the battery, and expires at the end of the warranty period printed on your original receipt and Order Confirmation email, or when you sell your vehicle, whichever occurs first. This warranty cannot be transferred to anyone at any time.

I purchased this battery back on 4/7/09 and the past few days I notice something weird. When I crank it, it starts fine but I notice the lightd are very dim and after 5-10 seconds it's like someone turned on the light switch and everything is bright. I just checked it with a meter and with the key in the ignition it reads 12.3v. As I turn the key it reads 10v, then 12v, then after a few seconds it rises to 14.1v. Could there be a problem with either the battery or the alternator?

Sounds like a ground problem to me... Make sure the negative cable is clean and tight..With a reading of 14.1 volt.. the alternator is working properly...If cleaning and tightning the ground doesn't solve your problem.. I would have the battery checked under a load...

            • A:

The first thing i would check is the battery terminal connections. First disconnect them from the batt, and scurb them with a wire brush, and pour some vinager on the terminal posts. Recconnect them and start. If problem still persists then take off your altenator and take it in to nearest Advance Auto Parts Store and have them test the voltage regulator. If voltage regulator is bad you can replace just that , or buy new altinator.
