I bought this battery for my 1993 Ford Taurus GL after I left the car on and drained my silver autocraft battery. I was hoping the service would be a little faster since I ordered it online but it took the associates a few minutes to find my receipt. Immediately after installing the battery in my car I had to give a jump to a Suzuki sedan and it exceeded my expectations. The Suzuki started quickly w/o me having to rev my engine at all. A little pricey but the cold cranking amps are there when you need them on that snowy morning before work!

I have purchased TWO of these "GOLD" Batteries. The FIRST one went into my 1997 Ford F-250 4X4 460 CID. IT, only lasted not quite ONE YEAR. I have worked with lead acid Batteries for 45+ years, so I checked the specific gravity on all the cells when this one rolled over on it's back, (it went T.U. at least 12 times, and had to be charged just to start the truck) and the #2 cell (from Neg term) was reading "water only". The alternator always puts out 14.6 VDC, and the "ALL OFF" current drain is only 3.5 MICROAMPS. So this Battery went back to the Advance Auto Parts store where I bought it, and "explained" to the sales KID, WHY it was BAD. It was obvious, that he didn't have a CLUE, as to what I was talking about with "Specific Gravity", so he "Tested" it with an Electronic Tester, which of course told him it was O.K. !! There was NO educating him about batteries, so he would NOT replace it for me. Of course the Manager was not there at the time, so I found out WHEN he was supposed to be there (next day) and I went back and talked to him. He was very nice, and swapped it right away. So I got a NEW identical battery put in. Well, the new one was built in May, 2010, and now IT keeps going DEAD!! But, I am tired of battery swapping, so I gave up on this "THING". I live in Lakewood CO, and I like a battery that will turn my crank at ANY temperature, even if the headlights were left on for 1 or 2 hours, (which actually happened to my wife in our 1995 Aerostar, with an Autocraft Titanium battery in it). The original MOTORCRAFT factory battery that came in my truck, lasted ELEVEN YEARS with never a failure!!! So I went to a FORD dealer and had a new 850 CCA battery put in. NO MORE AUTOCRAFT BATTERIES FOR ME. Sorry, but some of the CHILDREN working there, have NO knowledge of what they sell. But, that is becoming common everywhere these days, isn't it !!

The best part of this battery is the 3 year free replacement, because you are gong to use it over and over. I installed this in my 2001 F150 and every winter it gets replaced, the longest it has lasted was 16 months. The electrical system on the truck tested good, so it is the battery that is poorly made. There is no doubt that Advance Auto has lost money on my purchase when it comes to this battery. Since it's free to replace I keep going back and always keep a spare battery in my garage to use when this one goes bad!

Looking at this battery for a 1999 Ford Expedition, 5.4 V-8. My concern is the picture shows the positive battery post on the top left side. The battery installs on the passenger side but the positive post must be on the right side, closer to the engine so that the positive cable will reach. Are the pictures accurate?

Hi Procproc, good question! This is a maintenance free battery. With maintenance-free batteries, you do not need to add water. This kind of battery also reduces corrosion in the battery terminal posts. In case of low water, you only need to add water to any cells that are low on water.

                  A:

Hi Jo, glad to assist you! This battery comes with five year warranty and three year free replacement period. Free Replacement Period begins the day of purchase and expires at the end of the Free Replacement Period printed on your original sales receipt. This period does not renew when the battery is replaced during the Free Replacement Period. If the battery becomes defective after the Free Replacement Period and prior to the end of the warranty period, the warranty benefit will be prorated and can either be credited toward the purchase of a new battery or refunded at our option. The proration amount shall be determined by dividing the purchase price by the number of months of the warranty period, then multiplying the result by the months remaining in the warranty period. Partial months are rounded to the nearest whole month. Installation of an automotive battery in any other type of vehicle or equipment voids your warranty. For any further assistance please feel free to call us at: 1-877-238-2623 and one of our Parts Pros will gladly assist you.

Inquiry to a battery that needs replaced.
If the battery is under warranty, eight months left and I was to purchase a battery online can I be refunded the prorated portion at the store when I pick up the new battery?

Let me explain. Let's say that I purchased a battery online for store pickup. I apply the discount code and make the purchase. I then go to the store for pick up and return of the old battery for the core charge of $18. Since this battery has eight months of warranty on it will I also be refunded the prorated amount of approximately $16 also? Or do I have to make the purchase at the store for the warranty prorated refund?

                1 answer

                • CUSTOMER CARE

                  A:

Hi Beeriller! Glad to be of assistance! To determine the amount of warranty, you take the actual sale price of the battery and divide it by the number of months in the warranty listed on your receipt. Let’s say for example that a battery is originally sold for $60.00. You would divide the price by the warranty period; $60.00 divided by 72(for example) months equals $0.83 per month credit. If the battery fails within the first 24 months, we replace it free. This is your “Free Replacement Period”. After that time, you receive credit for every month remaining in the warranty which starts at the original purchase date. If you had the battery for 36 months, you would receive $30.00 credit toward the cost of the new battery. If it failed after 50 months, you would receive $9.96 credit toward the purchase of the new battery. I would recommend that you check with our toll free service 1-877-ADVANCE (238-2623) to know the exact pro ration for your warranty claim.

                  A:

Hi Bill, good question! A "Core Charge" is similar to the deposit you might pay for a can or bottle of soda. In many states, to promote recycling, you are charged a deposit when you purchase a can of soda and you receive your deposit back when you return the empty can. Many automotive parts have a Core Charge, or Core Price, that works the same way as a soda can deposit. Here's how the Core Charge works: The part you are purchasing contains a component that is recyclable. The Core Charge deposit is charged at the time of purchase. When the recyclable component from your old part is returned to us, the charge is refunded to you. To receive your Core Charge refund, you can do either of the following: Bring the part to any Advance Auto Parts store along with your receipt or packing slip. Mail the part back to Advance Auto Parts following the directions including on your packing slip. Core Charges are often mandated by state legislature, and, as such, the actual core charge and taxes on the charge may vary depending on the state in which you buy your part. The Advance Auto Parts core charge presented to you online today with your item is representative of the most common core charge. If you have any questions, please call 1-877-ADVANCE (238-2623) or visit any Advance Auto Parts store.

I purchased this battery in September 2009. My inquiry is concerning the warranty. I am aware of the three year free replacement but how does the remaining two years for the five year warranty factor in?

I have had the battery / charging system / starter tested at a local Advance Auto store and they stated that everything checks ok except the battery had a low charge. Since the tested were done I have done additional testing. The battery will not fully charge and also drains. I have used a multi-meter and verified that the alternator is working properly. It has a voltage output of 14.2 volts. I have also tested the vehicle for a parasitic draw; the vehicle has .4 mili-amps draw when shut off.

I am inquiry to what the pro-rated amount would be off a new battery for this battery. It was purchased in September 2009 so the battery has been in use for 52 months.

For any further assistance, please call us directly at 1-877-ADVANCE (238-2623) and one of our representatives there would be more than happy to assist you.

              • Q:

My truck takes 2 batteries. Everyone always says you should change them in pairs, so the power & age is the same. If I need to replace one under warranty, will you change them both, so the power stays the same? Or do I have to throw a good battery away, and pay for a second one, just to keep them the same age?

Hi Joe, great question! Locate the battery, most likely to your right if you are standing in front of the car. The battery will be stamped with a coded date. The code starts with a letter and a number. A represents January, B represents February and so on. The date will be one number representing the year of manufacture. The year 2008 would be represented by an 8 for example. If your battery is stamped C7 it was manufactured in March of 2007.
