What can I say, my old battery died and I needed a new one. This one seemed pretty reasonable, especially with the sale that was running. Installation was interesting. There are some raised portions on the top of the battery that made it a little more difficult to bracket in place. Further, the handle wasn't easy to remove, and it had to be removed in order to replace the cover on the battery well. But, it starts my car where my other wouldn't, and it has more cold-cranking amps than a few other batteries I looked at in this range. I've been using it for a few weeks now, and have had no problems whatsoever. Hopefully, this will last me till I change cars.

My family and I have been loyal to the Advance Auto batteries for years but recently I have had to replace this battery way too soon in multiple vehicles. Just recently with a 1.5 year old battery that had already been replaced once (that was 2 years old) left me stranded with a 2 year old and me 36 weeks pregnant. Advance would not honor their warranty or their prorated warranty. I will not purchase this item again.

It was suggested that I upgrade to the gold for the better warranty. After 17 months and total battery failure, upon entering the store I was shocked to find it only had a 3 month or 90 day warranty

      What a Battery!

Comments about AutoCraft Gold Battery, Group Size 35, 640 CCA:

I have had this battery in my car since March 2010. Just short of 7 years. Yesterday the temperature was below freezing and I could hear the starter was turning over a bit slower. It was still starting the engine. So I decided that maybe it was time for a new battery. I am buying the exact same battery. I have never had a battery last this long before! Great quality at a decent price. Jim G.

          • Q:

Hi I bought a Gold 640 CCA battery for my 2008 Subaru, The other day when the temp got down to 9 degrees my car wouldnt turn over. I waited until the temp got up to 24 and it started. I drove it 5 mi to the store to have it checked . They told me it had 12.3 V and 522 CCA and that was considered OK. Im thinking I need thar 20% CCA that was lost. Is a battery that works only in warm weather and has lost 20% of the original CCA not considered defective? Thank you
Asked on 12/21/2016 by Ray from Upton, MA.

            1 answer

            • CUSTOMER CARE

              A:

Glad to assist, Ray! Generally, vehicle's battery loses 33% of its power when the temperature dips below 32 degrees F (0 degrees C) and over 50% of its power when the temperature falls below 0 degrees F (-18 degrees C). This is usually not a problem because vehicle manufacturers specify batteries with cold cranking amps (CCA) that should start your car even at 0 degrees F. Whether your battery can start your car in cold weather depends on its cold cranking amps (CCA). Cold cranking amps are the number of amps delivered by a battery at 0 degrees F (-18 degrees C) for 30 seconds without dropping below 7.2 volts. If your vehicle's specifications call for a battery with at least 500 cold cranking amps, then at 0 degrees F, a battery with 522 cold cranking amps should be able to start your car.

I purchased a gold battery that went bad during the warranty period. It was replaced with a silver battery. Should it have been replaced with the battery type I purchased originally? The vehicle is a 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser

            • CUSTOMER CARE

              A:

Yes, Daniel! You can replace the silver battery with original gold battery. But, we do not offer the exact fit gold battery for your 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser online. However, we do offer an exact fit AutoCraft Silver Battery - Part No. 27F-3 for your vehicle online. Please bring the defective battery to an Advance Auto Parts store along with your original sales receipt and the Store Manager will be in a better position to assist you with your warranty replacement inquiry.

Good question, lpedraja2002! Usually, it is the purchase date. Some batteries have a series of months and dates in circular sticker format. Usually, the retailer will peel off the date that you purchased in order to verify warranty claims.
