Cadillac CTS AutoCraft Gold Battery

Advance Auto Parts was the only dealer I'd found that stocks and sells a battery for a Caddy SRX. But I got lucky to even find a store within 50 miles that had one in stock.

The battery strength is a bit weak for a 5000 pound car with a Bose stereo, electric seats. With my last OEM battery I was afraid to turn on my radio or change seating positions with the ignition off. The new battery has the same CCA cranking power as the OEM battery, so I'm faced with the same problem with the radio and seats.

Having said all these negatives about this battery, unfortunately if you drive an SRX this is the only battery that meets OEM sizing. You can be clever and try to retro fit a different battery, but that's another story. Why on earth did Cadillac require such an odd ball battery size? oh, it's GM that's why.

I drive 50 miles per day and I am sure that using lights and accessories everyday must have been wear and tear on my last battery. I noticed a rapid start when the autocraft battery was installed! Having had to hold my breath for the past week hoping my car started everyday or hoping someone was available to give me a jump, either at home or at work is going to be a relief! I hope I get the maximum life out of this battery...If I am impressed after a cold harsh Ohio winter, I won't hesitate to get another one!

While i was doing research on this question i found that the battery is located in the back seat which you probably know but if you change it out your self it could void the warranty so i would recommend taking it into your local dealership. :)

                  A:

I don't know about the CTS, but if it's anything like the 2004 Caddy SRX the battery is enclosed within a plastic cover and sits close to the firewall. The plastic cover is secured by 2 hinges. Remove the cover to expose the battery could be tricky. There is another piece of metal that sits on the bottom of the battery which prevents it from shifting. You may need to remove that piece if the battery doesn't come out. My battery has side terminals as oppose to the traditional top terminals. Disconnect the positive and negative wires from the battery. You need an O-wrench, maybe a regular wrench will do to remove nuts to the wires. Since there is not much wiggle room, use a crow bar or strong screw driver as a lever to raise the battery from the seat so you can grasp it.

reverse the process when you put in the new battery. Good luck, but it's easier to have Advance Auto Parts do it for you ;) for free, though tip the guy would be nice.

                  A:

The battery in the CTS is easy to install. If you have the CTS-V model, the battery should be in the trunk but I believe all other models have it located in the engine compartment on the passengers side near the firewall. Just disconnect the cables(negative first) and move them out of the way. The there is a 14mm bolt in front of the battery that needs to be removed so the hold down clamp can be taken out. Lift the old battery out, remove and install the cover on the new battery if iot has one. Reinstall and tighten the clamp and reinstall the battery cables(positive first). Then turn the key and you are ready to roll. You may have to reprogram the radio, etc but usually the settings will be retained. Good Luck.
