Flooded, lead-acid batteries have a specific charge protocol, and this machine won't do it.

It will chronically undercharge your battery. It works great as a booster for starting, or to get your battery partially charged, but cannot fully charge your battery without many, many days or weeks on the charger. It should provide maximum amps for the setting as the voltage rises to its set point (in this case 14.4v) and then hold it at 14.4v tapering the amps until the battery is mostly charged, then switch to float. I've never been able to get it to hold 14.4v for more than a few minutes, then it goes to "charged" with the green light and drops to float voltage. My old manual charger does a better job at actually charging the battery.

I don't understand why a company would market this as a smart charger - if it doesn't have a charging protocol that matches what every lead-acid manufacturer recommends.

I'm very disappointed in my purchase and will attempt to return. It has zero value as a deep cycle charger, but would work for the auto enthusiast to boost batteries back to a higher state of charge - but it won't fully charge your battery.

Comments about AutoCraft Gold 3/5/12/30/100 Amp 6/12-Volt SpeedCharge Automatic Battery Charger/Tester:

I contacted "online chat" before I purchased this product. I asked if it would charge 6V batteries, and they answered yes. They also said it would charge at 3/5/12/30/100 ampere rates. So I bought it only to find that will not charge 6V batteries and it will only charge at 2/15/100 ampere rates. Now I have to purchase a 6V charger (not from Adv. Auto). It does work as designed but that design is sort of worthless. 1. It would have been more useful to include an ammeter so you know if and how much it is charging 2. an alternator can easily be checked with an inexpensive voltmeter, you don't need an alternator test 3. the 100 amp start probably won't turn over a car with a dead battery, it is only good for 5 seconds, would have been better to include a 30 or more charging rate. To much money for these superficial features.

Comments about AutoCraft Gold 3/5/12/30/100 Amp 6/12-Volt SpeedCharge Automatic Battery Charger/Tester:

I purchased this charger to help the significant other who's battery wasn't staying charged. I charged her battery several times with this in both high and slow charge modes and it worked very well. Then, two days ago, the neighbor had a dead battery so I went to use this in the Engine Start mode and the unit blew out on the first attempt to crank the engine. (Afterward we jumped his car with my car and cables without a problem.) I have no idea what happened, but I am glad I had this happen within 30 days of purchase. I will be taking the unit back this weekend to either refund or swap out, though not certain which. I decided to pay extra for a charger with an engine start feature. I'd like to be confident the feature will work without blowing out the unit.

i like the fact this checks for battery charge but also alternator charge. It charges both battery and alternator. Only dislike is it requires an outlet to do the chargeing but will run a check without the outlet.

This Charger/Started was a great addition to my tool box. I have a couple of cars that sit for a while and may discharge the batteries over time with just vampire power. (Power to keep up memories for the car computer, Clock and so on.) With this charger I have the choice to either use it as a jump starter or as a trickle charger (If I have a couple of hours for the battery to slowly recharge) I have also used the battery tester and it was a great way to find out if there was anything wrong with the charging system or not. The only bad thing I can say about this charger tester is that in sun light the display is heard to read.

On the plus side, I found the XC-103 to be well made and durable. It was convenient, easy to use and worked well for standard batteries. However, it will not work with many AGM type batteries.

This unit has a setting for AGM batteries but the voltage output for this setting is up to 15.6v. Optima (and many other AGM) batteries require 14.6v or lower. Using the XC-103 to charge an Optima will cause it to boil. The vent will open to allow the pressure/gas to escape causing decreased battery life.

Neither the included documentation or manufacturers website listed the exact output voltage for each setting. If you're buying this for use with AGM type batt's check to make sure they will take a charge at 15.6v without damage.

Durability I cannot speak about as I have had the porduct for a very short amount of time but in that period, I have charged a completely depleted battery to fully charged in about 3 hrs. Charged 4 vehicles including 2 trucks, one of which is a diesel with two batteries and it just works as advertised.

I looked at 3 battery chargers on Advance and none give any info. What good is the website if you can't even list the amperage, automatic or manual. I previously searched for parts and found the website worthless. The operators of this site should look at their competition and learn how to provide info on products.

not only do they not provide needed information, they also fail to provide a photo. Apparently they do not have anyone capable of building a website to sell their products, which by the way, when I look for something and find a web like this one I dont hang around long, but go to some place that provides the necessary information for my purchases. Thanks.
