Comments about AutoCraft Door Handle, Exterior:

My 1999 Tahoe had a cracked external driver door handle. It still worked but I was afraid it was going to let go and leave me crawling over the console from the passenger side.

Installing this is the worst part about it. It works same as original and looks OEM. The gasket is slightly smaller than the original as I can now see a worn line around this handle where the original was.

The door panel removal was not too bad but getting my hand inside the door was a circus contortion act. I had to have my wife spot from the outside while I was elbow deep in the inside.

I did not remove the inner door panel, just took all the bolts out and moved it around slightly to allow me to move/remove as necessary. Maybe it took longer but I didn't want to mess with the window, regulator or wiring attached.

Comments about AutoCraft Door Handle, Exterior:

This was a perfect fit for my 99 Suburban, a bit difficult to install so be prepared to take some time for the install. I felt the price was a bit high for a piece of plastic I found it online.a little cheaper but with shipping cost not worth the trouble and the wait time.

      • Q:

        I have replaced 2 outside door handles on a 97 Suburban C1500, 350, 2WD.
There seems to be a problem with the two bolts being located where the outside end bolt is two short due to a gap between the brass bushing and the door. If you try to force it leaving the inside bolt loose so it will move a little the handle housing hits and it will pull the brass bushing out of the plastic. Has anyone else noticed this pattern problem and why? Don't recall ever having this with GM part replacement. The Dorman crosses to a different # than the GM as well.

Hi Jcs, my answer to your question on the Dorman - Help Exterior Door Handle -part# 77096CD is that help is the product line Dorman offer the handle in and carded means it comes on shrink wrapped on a card to hang on a display.
