Comments about Autocraft Brake Spring Tool:

This device is designed for exactly one thing; removing and installing the retainer springs on drum brake shoes. It is way easier than using pliers or other non-purpose-built tools. Mine had a lightly serrated internal cone, but other units in the store had deeper serrations. In retrospect, I would have gotten the more deeply serrated version so as to grip the spring retainer better. The open top allows you to see the position of the retaining rod end and is nice to have when you are reassembling the unit with new springs. The retaining rod end needs to be set at 90 degrees to the keeper slot in order to be properly seated, hence the desireabliity of the open end on the top of the business end of the tool.

Comments about Autocraft Brake Spring Tool:

If you are doing any work on Drum brakes this is a must. This tool cut my work time in half and a good employee should recommend this to anyone doing a brake job. My father was surprised at how easy I was able to do the springs and said that he would pay more than $5 just to rent, thats how nice this tool is. I'm glad I bought it.
