Comments about AutoCraft Side Post Battery Wrench:

It really helps to have the right tools. A reversible side post battery ratcheting wrench is what is needed when you want to loosen the side post battery bolts or tighten the battery posts quickly. Unfortunately, this particular brand has flaws that some would say is nothing, but I say is major. This is my second wrench of the same manufacturer. You have to tighten the side post by hand too much before this wrench will assist to tighten it all the way. The other flaw is that the reversible trigger is not consistent. If you want to use the wrench in the opposite direction, you are better off simply turning the wrench around and then using it. To some people this is no big deal; to me it is a big deal because it is not performing in the manner in which it was designed and what they proclaim how this product should work. There are better brands of the side post wrench that is sold at Advance Auto Parts. I would recommend any brand that is not AutoCraft and any wrench that cost more than $8. This wrench will get the job done, but there are far better quality wrenches out there.

Great little wrench made just for side mount battery cable fasteners. One side is tighten and the other loosen (flip wrench to change direction). A must for every toolbox.

          A:

Hi! I would be glad to assist you. The best tool to use in this and similar situations is a 6" pipe wrench. It will damage the bolt but that's already the problem. It will remove a bolt that is completely rounded off. Just put it on the stripped bolt and apply a little counter clockwise pressure and the bolt will loosen. Be careful as it is possible to actually loosen the entire terminal block requiring a new battery.
