    Comments about AutoCraft Battery Charger:

My 1st unit died at almost exactly 1 yr old, luckily advanced auto had a 2 year warranty. My 2 year warranty started back up again at return to the store. They refunded and I bought again.

Careful, this is a manual unit.

          Comments about AutoCraft Battery Charger:

First off, this unit is MANUAL CHARGE ONLY, it says so right on the box. This does not have auto-off, or "trickle" charge function, so do not leave it charging a battery for days/weeks, you will damage the charger, battery, or start a fire. It also does not have "jump-start" feature like a more expensive unit... This is only a 6-Amp (for automotive/large batteries) or 2-Amp (for lawn/garden/sport-craft batteries) charger. Instructions state clearly: "Do not leave charger attached to a battery for more than 8-hours"

Now for the "good".... It does the job topping up a monthly charge on my lawnmower, motorcycle, and ATV batteries during the off-season... I simply hook it up on the 2-Amp setting and let it charge for a couple of hours (watching Amp gauge to tell when charge is reached) for each battery. I've been doing this for three off-seasons, and never had a problem with charger or any of my batteries. Each battery I monthly "top-off" works perfectly when I need it to in the Spring.

I've even used this charger to charge the battery in my son's car when he left the lights on all day. In about 2-3 hours it had enough charge to start the car without dragging. I'm sure it would have fully charged the battery in 4-6 hours.

I've never used the 6-volt setting, but I'm sure if I had an antique car with a 6-volt system, it would do just fine.

What does it mean when the green light comes on? Does that mean the battery is fully charged?

              • CUSTOMER CARE

                A:

Hi Majikfish, happy to help you! The percent of charge scale in intended as a visual aid to help simplify reading the state of charge. It is scaled for use with the 6 amp charge rate only. For the 2 amp charge rate use the red triangle. The percent of charge is based on current drawn by the battery. For this reason accuracy will vary with the size and battery type. Typically a 28 ampere hour gel cell battery will draw less current at end of charge then a 140 ampere hour wet cell battery. This means that the indication for a fully charged large battery may be slightly less than 100%. For the 2 amp charge rate a red triangle has been provided within the green area of the meter scale, it's accuracy has been calibrated for use with small batteries. As a battery takes on a charge, it draws less current from the charger, correspondingly less of the red area will fall under the meter needle. Happy to answer your question George! It sounds like you may have a internally defective charger, I suggest taking to your store for additional information on possibly exchanging it.

              • CUSTOMER CARE

                A:

I'm glad to assist, George! I have verified that if the battery is severely discharged then the charger will sit at 100% charged. If the charger is not connected to a battery and it is displaying this, you could have a defective charger. Once a battery is connected to the charger, it may take a few seconds for the charger to begin the charging process. If you feel this AutoCraft Battery Charger (Part No. AC-60CR/SE-82-6) is defective, please return it to your local Advance Auto Parts store with your receipt.

Does this charger have an automatic 12V mode? The box it came in says that it does and the product features listed on the Advance Auto website says it does, but the product specifications says it is only manual. Very conflicting and confusing information. So, which is it?

              • CUSTOMER CARE

                A:

I'm happy to help, John! This Autocraft 2/6 Amp 12/6-Volt Battery Charger/Maintainer (Part No. SE-82-6) is a manual charger. I certainly understand the confusion this has caused and I have forwarded this information to have the content updated. It's possible that the information for Part No. SE-82-6-CA was mistakenly added when entering the information for SE-82-6. The SE-82-6-CA is an automatic charger. If you have a switch on the front of your charger, for 6V-6A, 12V-2A and 12V-6A then you have the manual charger.

                A:

I'm glad to assist, Not Sure! To charge your 12V car battery the 6 amp setting would be utilized. If you are looking to maintain the charge in your battery, (car will be "stored") the 2 amp trickle charge setting would be utilized.

Hi Lloyd, great question! I researched and found that this battery charger is a manual (non-automatic) battery charger. A Manual charger will continue to charge and will not shut off. You must keep a visual check on the ammeter to determine when the battery is charged.

              • CUSTOMER CARE

                A:

Yes, you can charge 2 batteries with the Schumacher 2/6 Amp 12/6-Volt Battery Charger/Maintainer - Part No. SE-82-6. However the two batteries should be connected to each other positive to positive and negative to negative. Then attach the charger positive to the positive on one battery and the negative to the negative of the other battery. Do not hook both leads up to one battery. It will obviously take longer to charge two batteries than it will to charge one. This part is a manual charger and you must keep a visual check on the ammeter to determine when the battery is charged. For any further assistance please feel free to call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto store and one of our representatives will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

Yes, you can use the Schumacher XC6 charger to charge motorcycles. The 2 ampere slow charge is great for charging and maintaining small batteries, charges motorcycle, ATV, snowmobile and lawn tractor batteries. You can remove the socket from your battery and clip on this to the post of the battery.
