Comments about Autocraft 1.5 Amp 12-Volt Trickle Charger/Maintainer:

This style charger is required to be installed all the time. Adds several pounds to your vehicle as it goes with you wherever you drive. It works great, but didn't really want a permanent install. There is another style where a connector is wired in, and the charger is just connected as required. I like that one better.I still would recommend it as it works fine.(BTW: It is made in [*]....)

I like that it is solid state and completely sealed up. I hooked it up and left it plugged in so I am trusting it to work as advertised as I will not see it for several months. I was concerned that it had not shut off for the one day that I did monitor it.

                  • CUSTOMER CARE

                    A:

Hi Franc, glad I could help! The charger contains an electronic control circuit which safeguards against overcharging the battery. The POWER ON (green) LED will light when the AC cord is properly connected. When the battery is charged the CHARGED (red) LED will light. The charger then automatically switches between charge mode and maintain mode as necessary. The CHARGED (red) LED will cycle on when the battery is at full charge and off when the voltage drops below a preset level and the charger goes into charge mode. This cycle will continue, and the CHARGED (red) LED will stay on for longer periods of time as the battery becomes more fully charged.

My elderly mother has a 85 Monte Carlo and does not drive the car enough to fully charge the battery and eventually it won't start. Can this be hooked up directly to her battery terminals and the plug run through the grille and left attached so all she has to do is unplug it from the extension cord leading to the wall when she wants to use the car? She is pretty much unable to lift the hood and does not know anything about hooking up a charger with clamps.
