I had used a USA charger for a long time then it died on me. Bought Black&Decker 2A, it died after a year with occasional use. Bought another from Harbor Freight and it died on me after several month. This one is the one I consider coming close to the USA charger. It's weight tells you it has a better coil inside.
Note: I have 2 cars, 2 motorcycles and 1 scooter.

Comments about Autocraft 1.5 Amp 6/12-Volt SpeedCharge Maintainer:

I bought this charger/maintainer to charge my riding mower battery and the SLA batteries used in our Power Wheels. The 1.5 amp rating is perfect for charging these batteries. I have both 6V and 12V ride ons so the auto switching is very convenient. I also crimped on the charging ends for the different battery types to the accessories included to match the 2 different battery types. Works great!

Comments about Autocraft 1.5 Amp 6/12-Volt SpeedCharge Maintainer:

My battery was almost dead...after about 1 week of charging, it started my 2 battery diesel truck right up! Truck does not get started daily, so this little unit keeps the battery charged, even in the cold. Easy enough to install. If 2 battery system will have to extend 1 of the wires with #16 AWG. Not a big deal! Simple operation - GREEN its on and RED the battery is charged. Simple plug in to an extension and this unit does the rest. No more hot-shots and ruining batteries in my other vehicles.

I HIGHY recommend this for short or long term storage of batteries.

In sub 0 degree conditions my 5 year old battery would not turn the engine over. After a three mile round trip walk I hooked it up anyway.Within 3 hours "charged" light was indicated.BAM started like it was middle of summer.Very happy.

I have used this charger on my ATV, motorcycle, and Ford Ranger. On each vehicle the green (charged) light on the charger will come on after only a few minutes of being connected. All batteries are at least three years old. Does this mean there is a problem with the charger or are my batteries not needing to be charged?

Hi Shanus, glad to assist you! The YELLOW LED indicates charging, the GREEN LED indicates battery is fully charged and the RED LED indicates check battery. However, I would suggest that you take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.

                      • CUSTOMER CARE

                        A:

I'm happy to help, Wayne! The use of this Autocraft 1.5 Amp 6/12-Volt SpeedCharge Maintainer (Part No. SEM-1562A) in an enclosed area with the possibility of gasoline fumes will vary based on your conditions. A well sealed garage that will allow a build up of those gasoline fumes, could cause an explosive situation with even the light bulbs used in the garage. If you have a more drafty garage and the fumes are not building up quickly, it may be less risky.

With any automotive products there are generally some risks involved. Since this maintainer is an automatic type, it will certainly increase your safety level as well as increase your battery life. The low amperage charge will reduce the amount of gas released from the battery during charging as well.

Ventilation will certainly be key to the safe use of this maintainer in your garage.
