Comments about Autocraft 1.5 Amp 6/12-Volt SpeedCharge Maintainer:

I bought this charger/maintainer to charge my riding mower battery and the SLA batteries used in our Power Wheels. The 1.5 amp rating is perfect for charging these batteries. I have both 6V and 12V ride ons so the auto switching is very convenient. I also crimped on the charging ends for the different battery types to the accessories included to match the 2 different battery types. Works great!

Comments about Autocraft 1.5 Amp 6/12-Volt SpeedCharge Maintainer:

My battery was almost dead...after about 1 week of charging, it started my 2 battery diesel truck right up! Truck does not get started daily, so this little unit keeps the battery charged, even in the cold. Easy enough to install. If 2 battery system will have to extend 1 of the wires with #16 AWG. Not a big deal! Simple operation - GREEN its on and RED the battery is charged. Simple plug in to an extension and this unit does the rest. No more hot-shots and ruining batteries in my other vehicles.

I HIGHY recommend this for short or long term storage of batteries.

In sub 0 degree conditions my 5 year old battery would not turn the engine over. After a three mile round trip walk I hooked it up anyway.Within 3 hours "charged" light was indicated.BAM started like it was middle of summer.Very happy.

                      A:

Hello Rick. Happy to help with your question. It will vary on the type of battery you use for your generator. This charger is used mostly on small 6-volt batteries typically used in motorcycles, ATVs ( All Terrain Vehicles), or ride in lawn mowers. If this is the style of battery you use on your generator then this charger can work for you.

Hi - I would like to use the AC-15CR to maintain a charge for the battery of an old station wagon when the vehicle is not in use (such as over the weekend or while on vacation). The vehicle is parked in an uncovered driveway. My plan is to leave this charger/maintainer under the hood of the vehicle and plug it in using an extension cord running from the garage. Is there a better way than that for use outdoors?

Yes, Deebo, this AutoCraft 1.5 Amp Battery Charger/Maintainer (Part No. AC-15CR/SEM-156) should work fine on your application. Instead of dragging out your conventional charger and cables, then putting everything away when finished. You can mount this small unit under your hood, plug in a small AC extension cord, and close the hood.

i bought this to maintain (float) charge on an RV battery (not as a charger). i connected to the new battery (standalone, not in RV) and when i plugged it in, the yellow light came on. after a bit the green light came on as expected. after a little while longer, the yellow light came back on for a brief moment then back to green. after that it appears to cycle between the yellow (short period) and green (longer period). is this correct operation? i thought once it went to green, it would stay green w/a small float current to keep it charged rather than going back to yellow charge cycle... tried advance auto chat help but they did not know....

It has a microprocessor to help protect from over charging. This charger does not come with balancing leads, just standard clamp leads. The lithium batteries that you would connect to this would be smaller batteries used in motorcycles, lawn mowers, scooters, jet ski etc.

                      A:

No, Cowfarmer! I do not recommend this 1.5 Amp Battery Charger/Maintainer - Part No. AC-15CR/SEM-156 to charge a marine deep cycle battery. This charger maintains 12 volt batteries, keeping them at full charge. If you use the battery charger to charge a large battery, such as a marine deep cycle battery, that was not fully charged, you may lose some of the battery's capacity. This would cause the larger battery to be unable to hold a charge and become useless. Therefore, we do not recommend charging a large battery with this unit.

Hi Rick, I'm glad to assist you! Use this charger (Part number. AC-15CR/SEM-156) for charging LEAD-ACID batteries only. It is not intended to supply power to a low voltage electrical system other than in a starter-motor application. Do not use this battery charger for charging dry-cell batteries that are commonly used with home appliances. These batteries may burst and cause injury to persons and damage to property. A:

Happy to help you with your question Sethrs! When the battery charger is blinking yellow it means it is in "Abort" mode. This can be cleared my disconnecting and reconnecting the power plug but if it is not clearing try hooking up another battery then you may suspect the battery. If the Yellow light is sill on with another battery it may be an issue with the charger itself. This Charger has a 2 year if defective warranty so that may be something the store can handle for you.
