This is the third charger I've purchased.First one for my Harley, four years old.Second one for my wife's Mustang convertible, stored from Halloween to April 1,two years old.Third one one for 87 S10 plow truck, first year of use.I also alternate oldest chargerfrom Harley,to two riding lawnmowers, for the winter, upstate N.Y.Schumacher has alwyays been a trusted name to me.Have had their products for many years with no problems,so I just keep buying more when needed. Not saying there isn't as good a product from a different company,I'm not changing from Schumacher, because I think you get a reliable product for a reasonable price.

Good Manual Charger

Don't leave this connected to your battery all the time. It is a manual charger and will boil a battery dry if left on.

good charger for motorcycle- scooter

By

Comments about Autocraft 1 Amp 6/12-Volt Trickle Charger:

In the past when charging my full size 400cc scooter I had to remove rear scooter panels in order to get to the battery. Then connect the battey to a large chager and clamp to terminals. With this charger I just had to connect red and black link cable to battery route the cable to the outside of scooter and bingo connect chager . The cable supplied stays with the battery. That's it. It haves an indicator when green light is blinking that signifies the battery is chargering. When the green light stays on ,charging is complete. To note this does not automatically shut off. So you have to keep a eye when charging. This is a good charger to top off a battery during winter months when motorcycle/scooter/snow blower is not in use.To top off a semi charged battery it takes about 1-2 hours

Comments about Autocraft 1 Amp 6/12-Volt Trickle Charger:

As a trickle charger this product is fine, however it does NOT have an automatic float... meaning it does not automatically shut off if the battery is fully charged. So if you tried to use this as a maintainer in a boat or motorcycle over the winter you have a great chance of blowing up your battery. Online advertisement is incorrect, box does not state it is a maintainer nor does the directions. The tech specs in the direction book also says it does not have an automatic float, be careful and make shure you only want this product to be a trickle charger you leave on for hours at a time at most.

Very useful for atv's, snowmobiles, motorcycles, mowers, anything that you dont use every day. Keeps the batteries fresh so you can start them right up and take off. So much easier being able to leave the leads attached and the battery installed instead of removing the battery to charge it every time you need to.

Comments about Autocraft 1 Amp 6/12-Volt Trickle Charger:

I bought this for two reasons. I read the negative review about this not being an tender/automatic charger. To me that is good. I lost a $100.00 marine battery because of a failed automatic charger. I dont know how to tell if an automatic charger is working or not. This is a simple one amp charger. I touch the + and - alagator ends and it sparks...So I know it is on. For [$] and useing a 20% off coupon I can keep one as a spare at the cabin. I searched [@], [@], [@] and this was my pick. One thing, Advance may want to change the script as a battery maintainer that implies automatic. This is not an automatic that I can tell. This charges 1 Amp 24/7. That is what I want.

                A:

I'm happy to help, Ally! This may or may not work to charge your son's toy motorcycle with a 6-volt battery. Typically those batteries utilize a plug that is specific to the toy and charger to be utilized and this may not allow for that connection. If there is a proprietary connection, I suggest purchasing the specific replacement charger.

            • Q:

The information you sent me is for the wrong battery chargers. I have a "1 amp Autocraft MC-1 Battery Charger. It DOES NOT have alligator clips, instead you attach a cable with a connector end and two terminal ends to the Positive and Negative terminals of the battery and whenever you bring your machine back to the garage you just plug the charger end of the cable onto the battery cable connector end and push the manual button on the charger. The green LED's flash back and forth until it selects the correct voltage (12V in my case) of the battery. Again it has 3 LED's a green 6 volt LED, a green 12 volt LED and a red Error LED.

Now when I connected my trickle charger both green LED flash as usual and then the red error LED light's along with the 6 volt (not the 12 volt) green LED. This must indicate and error condition or the engineers would not have designed the charger this way.

If the unit has an error light it has to mean something when it lights, right???

                A:

I'm happy to help, Sam! I'm sorry the information that was previously provided did not address the issue. It looks like there was a running change in this part and that resulted in the confusion when providing you the information about this part. The Autocraft 1 Amp 6/12-Volt Trickle Charger (Part No. MC-1) is a different design and the red LED indicates a problem with the battery. I suggest returning the battery to your local Advance Auto Parts store to for testing and exchange if necessary.

                A:

I'm happy to help, DPoch6! If you are leaving a trickle charger hooked up, generally you are ok to leave the trickle charger hooked up as long as necessary. Trickle chargers are designed to maintain the charge of the battery so that it does not lose charge over time. This is especially helpful for vehicles that are not regularly driven. For a battery that is not fully charged, you would most likely need to let the trickle charger work at least overnight.
