Transhift cables connect the transmission selector lever/shifter to the transmission linkage. Old cables can bind, break, or just become sluggish. Comments about ATP Automatic Transmission Shifter Cable:

Used on a 1998 Sierra and it ended up having every gear except park. Adjusted all the way out and still too short by 1/4". Bought a pioneer cable and had no problems. This surprised me because I have never had a bad ATP product and have used them since 1993.

Would be more helpful to have known the disassembly procedures for removing the old cable along with the included installation instructions. Also would have been a great help to know the seat needed to be unbolted!

Comments about ATP Automatic Transmission Shifter Cable:

I have a 2000 Silverado 1500 regular cab. Cable is NOT a direct factory replacement. The column side of the cable is longer than stock. When connected to the gear lever it will not go up past reverse, even when the trans side is disconnected. ONLY get this cable if you plan on relocating the bracket on the column back about 1/2". Which would require cutting and re-welding.

These directions are NOTHING like the directions that come with this cable. The directions that come with cable unfortunately don't make much sense beyond step #6. Says to install cable, go from park to 1st gear 10 times. Step #7 is "Remove horseshoe clip from white lock tab and push in the white tab to lock in place. Slide the black retainer clip rearward over the white lock button until the white lock button is cover".......There is ONLY 1 white part on this cable, and I assume its the horseshoe clip.....nothing resembles a lock button.....no part of this will "slide rearward".......

Hi Jim, glad to assist you! Start by turning on the ignition key in a clockwise direction and then move the transmission's shift knob to the "D" position. Jack up the vehicle, loosen the single nut and then position the shift lever on the side of the transmission. Next, tighten the single and then remove the stands to lower the vehicle to the ground.
