2003 mercury sable GS. 6 cyl DOHC type S .. 4 mounts are listed and the car only takes three. Whats the difference? Which ones does it need? Hard to install? Worth taking it to a shop? I hear the right rear one is tough.

Hi John, great question! Your vehicle needs part #2894 for front, #2862 for rear, #2974 for transmission. The installation depends upon the skill level of the person performing the operation. For help with your project, I recommend purchasing a Haynes repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts.

There are four different engine mounts listed. I believe there are only 3 needed. Which ones do I need? Are they fairly easy to replace?

  • Q:

    2002 Ford Taurus wagon.
There are 3 different parts listed as motor mounts for my 2002 VIN S engine(DOHC) 1 appears to be a transmission mount. Which ones do I need? Can I replace them myself without taking apart most of the car? What do I really need to do to replace them? I have replaced motor mounts in a Sable with just some jacks sockets and wrenches.
