Comments about Advance Auto Parts Oil Treatment:

It's about like 90W gear oil. Name brand is thicker(maybe 120W-150W). Label says mix 10%, just like others, but I went to 15%, since it's thinner.

Comments about Advance Auto Parts Oil Treatment:

I'm a retired teacher and deliver newspapers to supplement my pension income. The constant stop, go, reverse, drive and frequent braking take an astonishing toll on any vehicle. My little 1994 Ford Escort is well past it's prime and burns oil with the tail-tale sign of blue smoke coming from the exhaust, but thanks to Advance Auto oil treatment, I save lots of money on oil and, for a while, the smoke issue dissappears. Instead of having to add a quart of oil once a week, I add a quart of oil treatment only once a month!

      • Q:

Product appears to be an in-house alternative to a name brand oil additive, which claims to have the zinc additive (ZDDP) and I wanted to know if this AAP additive also had any zinc?

          A:

Hi Kevin, great question! I researched and found that this oil treatment contains zinc salt of dialkyl dithiophosphoric (ZDDP) acid and a copolymer of ethylene and propylene.

      • Q:

Is this oil treatment compatible with synthetic oil usage? Also, is it advisable to use it in a new car with 3000 plus miles, but no break-in oil? Maybe at a reduced amount?

is this a good methode of removing any sluge buildup ?
Asked on 2/9/2010 by Anonymous from new york

        • A:

No, but changing your motor oil and filter at the manufacturer's recommended interval will. I'd also suggest using a premium brand motor oil (like Valvoline, Pennzoil, or Castrol). I personally use Castrol. Just don't use the bargain brand oil, good oil products will have the API certified seal and/or SAE Donut printed on the packaging. Use a decent filter too, I suggest using a WIX or Purolator brand oil filter.
