I work on my own car and use this tool to diagnose potential problems. It can also be used to remove your check engine light. It does not display data other than the code for that issue, so if your wanting live data or more extensive explanations of the issue you will need a more advanced reader. It does not have a feature to show data via usb to pc so this is something I'd personally like to have, but for the price I can certainly understand why it does not. Once again this is as basic as they come. One feature I did like about this reader is that it runs from the power of the vehicle so no additional power source is needed.

Dont get ripped off buy the dealership. Buy one figure out whats wrong, buy the part, and fix the problem. Or it is better to know what check engine light code your showing before calling a mechanic either way good buy.

Comments about Actron Pocket Scan Code Reader:

Very basic code reader and clearer. Simple and intuitive to use, most people will be able to use and understand quickly. Was bought to diagnose my son's truck, gave me codes, I looked up, diagnosed, repaired, cleared codes, test drove and rechecked for codes - none -performed it's simple job well. Only time will tell how long it lasts. As a further code I would recommend that a much better scanner be purchased, one that can read the data streams and provides definitions of codes. That will save a lot of time and trouble in diagnosing problems. For less than $50.00 it is impossible to beat for value though. Many will find it an incredibly useful addition to their tool boxes and if you do service calls on the road, should something happen to it, you will not cry too loudly or too long. I would recommend it for most "week enders" and "shade tree mechanics".

This product is a must for any vehicle. It is very simple to use and can save you a lot of money by trouble shooting your own mechanical issues. Once the code or codes come up, just look up the code online and use the Haynes or Chilton auto repair manual, also sold a Advance, to do your own repairs. The first time you use this scan tool, it will pay for itself. If you are a novice at minor or major auto repairs, using the scan tool and manual for your specific vehicle along with the knowledge and help of the Advance Auto Parts team, you would be surprised at what you can do yourself. Try it and get the feeling of accomplishment and save money.
