Actron Auto Scanner OBD II Code Reader

Part No. CP9575 Warranty Details
Auto Scanner is a trilingual (select English, Spanish, or French display) scan tool that will read and erase Diagnostic Trouble Codes as well as pending codes, freeze frame engine data and live engine data and the VIN number. The tool allows the user to view engine-sensor, switch and relay inputs in real time to help pinpoint problem components faster.

Product Features:
  • Recommended for use with OBD II compliant vehicles made in 1996 or later; scan tool is CAN compliant
  • Large, 8-line LCD screen displays Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs); retrieves all generic OBD II codes and their descriptions, contains over 15,000 generic and manufacturer-specific code definitions
  • User-friendly menu with trilingual display (English, French and Spanish)
  • Reads and erases DTCs; turns off check engine light; monitors status and I/M readiness to determine whether the vehicle is ready for an emissions test
  • Displays a freeze frame data snapshot of vehicle's operating conditions at time of fault

Avoid such issues as engine damage, poor gas mileage, performance problems, and high repair costs by using a diagnostic tool from Actron when your check engine light turns on. There are three common types of diagnostic tools that can help you in determining an issue when your check engine light is on:

A Scan Tool can be used to read and erase trouble codes, display, record and play back LIVE diagnostic data and perform other tests allowed by the vehicle maker. We have scan tools that cover vehicles 1982 to present depending on required coverage. All Actron Scan Tools are CAN compliant.

A Code Reader can be used to read and erase diagnostic trouble codes as well as other additional features depending on the tool. These tools work on all vehicles 1996 and newer. All Actron Code Readers are CAN compliant.

A Code Scanner reads diagnostic trouble codes generated by the vehicle's system. Codes are displayed on the vehicle's dashboard and/or identified through audio prompts. These products work with 1981-1995 vehicles.

We have 2 vehicles, one of which is my wife's 2005 Linclon LS. The Lincoln was purchased new and sits safe and sound in our garage, seldom driven. Today it has just shy of 11,000 miles (not a misprint...>11,000 miles) It's a shame to have a nice car and just let it sit there, but that's the way it is. I am forever charging the battery to keep that car alive. Heck, I even put Sta-Bil in the fuel tank when I filled it up last year. We drive my truck 99.9% of the time and we are always going places together these days.
Anyway, I was doing my semi-annual garage cleaning last weekend and thought I would change the oil on both vehicles too. When I started the Lincoln, it was misfiring like crazy. I backed it out of the garage and decided to take it for a spin to see if it would clear itself out. A half a block down the road and it was purring like a kitten again, BUT the "Check Engine Light" had come on. After a few 4-letter words, I returned home, cleaned the garage, changed oil and then went in and mentioned to the wife what had happened and she almost had a stroke when I told her that the "Check Engine Light" had came on on "Her Baby". She wanted that car fixed! And fixed NOW!!!!
Sunday is a bad day to get anybody to work on your car and when I did get one shop that could fix the engine light thing he said that it would cost over $100 to turn it off. I'm 64 and having been an aircraft mechanic for over 40 years, that price seemed OUTRAGEOUS! It was only a simple misfire!
Soooo, I started researching the problem online. The OBD II readers were clearly the answer. So on Monday I went to my Advance Auto Parts store and got a Actron CP9575 Code Reader. It wasn't the top of the line, but it was updatable, so I chose that one. Ten minutes after getting home, the problem with the Lincoln was solved.
I was a bit hesitant to get this reader because online reviews gave the reader itself praise, but gave failing remarks to the instructions and the software.
On Sunday, prior to buying the reader, I had downloaded the software and printed all available materials to my laptop and all went well. After clearing to code on the Linclon I updated the unit and it worked flawlessly.
The book that came with the unit was a poor translation from some other language, but the online material was very clear. NO PROBLEMS. I highly recommend this unit to anyboby who justs wants to see what's going on with their vehicle to determine if they want to try and fix the problem themselves. Weekend ShadeTree Mechanics, fear not! This OBD II Reader is a keeper! It works on my truck too.

i would not recommend this product because it did not have from 2002 and newer, and also didn't have all the makes and models of the vehicles. it is easy to use only if you have a 2001 and older and a buick, chevy, hummer, and a couple of others.

Comments about Actron Auto Scanner OBD II Code Reader:

Works really well, always accurate and reliable. However, it won't clear "permanent" codes on my 2011 Ford (I think those are limited to the manufacturer) but it'll definitely clear the CEL. Live data is useful when stationary, but not that helpful when moving.

Comments about Actron Auto Scanner OBD II Code Reader:

It is a pain every time the check engine light comes on and I had to run out to figure out what it means and what I need to fix the problem. Now I can plug this in and it tells me all the codes wrong, with a lot of other info that I would have thought a shop could only tell me. Not only does it tell me what the code is but gives me just enough information that I can look up to see how to fix the problem myself. I also love that I can clear the code instead of having to pay a shop to clear it for me. It has cut down on my down time immensely. I highly recommend it for any shade tree mechanic.

This gadget is a real money saver. When that infuriating "Check Engine" light comes on this gadget will tell you which of the myriad of possible faults has actually occurred. Then you know if you can fix it yourself or if you need to take the vehicle to a mechanic. In the latter case you can tell the mechanic you know what needs to be fixed, so it isn't likely you'll be charged for unnecessary repairs.

Comments about Actron Auto Scanner OBD II Code Reader:

It's a good scanner and does what it is designed to do, reads and most impotrantly to me, clears those same codes. I bought this unit because I was tired of having to drive to the auto store every time I had a check engine light come on.

I can also now do the same for friends and Family.
My only real con is that it doesn't hold the code once you unplug it from the car, and I did not realize this before I bought it, not really a big deal though as I start my code search from my smart phone any way. Also, the directions are VERY lacking but the unit is pretty self explanatory so again not a real big deal.

If I could, I would give it 4.5 stars.

I'm happy to help, Moe! To update the tool you would go to www.actron.com and from the updates section select your tool model. You would then download the Scanning Suite 4.0 application to perform the update with. The website will list the most current software available and describe how you can check your tool to see if it indeed needs to be updated.

                        A:

Hi Nel, I'm glad to assist you! The part #CP9575 only reads engine diagnostic information. It would only read transmission information on select early OBD II vehicles that stored the transmission information in the engine control module. Newer vehicles all have separate controllers and would require a more advanced tool to access the proprietary systems of the vehicle.

                        A:

Hi Jim! They will not retrieve Anti-Lock Brake (ABS) or Airbag (SRS) codes. These systems use separate computers that the scan tools are not capable of communicating with. The Actron Code Scanners and Scan Tools are designed to retrieve Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the Powertrain controller (engine computer) only.
