Comments about ACDelco Original Equipment Fuel Filter Kit:

This is a factory replacement part for a GM Vehicle. It will fit in the factory holder, and with the factory fittings without any modification. It DOES NOT include the O-RINGS on the fuel tubing that should be replaced each time the unit is serviced. Take care when replacing on a Blazer. Remove the bolt from the fuel line forward of the filter. This will allow you to remove the filter easily without obstruction from the lines. Also remember to coat the fittings in something that will combat corrosion in climates that use road salt. Take care to not contaminate the fuel supply with anti-seize.

                  A:

Hi Dee, glad to assist you! A fuel filter is a filter in the fuel line that screens out dirt and rust particles from the fuel, normally made into cartridges containing a filter paper. They are found in most internal combustion engines. Fuel filters serve a vital function in today's modern, tight-tolerance engine fuel systems. Unfiltered fuel may contain several kinds of contamination, for example paint chips and dirt that has been knocked into the tank while filling, or rust caused by moisture in a steel tank. If these substances are not removed before the fuel enters the system, they will cause rapid wear and failure of the fuel pump and injectors, due to the abrasive action of the particles on the high-precision components used in modern injection systems. Fuel filters also improve performance, as the fewer contaminants present in the fuel, the more efficiently it can be burnt.

                • CUSTOMER CARE

                  A:

With reference to your inquiry on the ACDelco Fuel Filter Kit - part# GF652, on your Cadillac Sedan Deville under the passenger side near the wheel well going into the engine compartment you'll see the fuel filter. You can follow the WARNING tagged fuel line from the gas tank in the rear. First, disconnect the positive post of the battery for safety reasons. Next, de pressurize the fuel system by locating the threaded valve stem up on the engine next to the carburetor. It looks like a tire stem valve except it is metal. Push on the inside stem pin with a small tool to release the pressure. Next, get a plastic container to catch the remaining fuel in the fuel line. A plastic gallon milk container rinse out with the upper part cut off works fine. The filter is clamped on with one metric bolt and clamp. First, remove the in port clip by squeezing the two out plastic taps. You can pull the hose away from the filter. Use the plastic container to catch the fuel drain from both the filter and the feed line from the gas tank. Next, remove the metric bolt to release the clamp holding the filter. Remove the filter exit hose the same way as the inlet hose. Install the new one the same way and direction as the old. The best way is to clip the exit hose onto the new filter, bolt the new filter with the hold clamp, clip the inlet hose to the new filter. The fuel drained into the plastic container will probably have sediment and debris because of the back drain out of the old filter. It is best to discard the small amount of fuel properly and not introduce it to fuel in the gas tank. I am attempting to replace my Fuel pump in a 1999 Chevrolet Truck K1500 1/2ton Sub 4WD 5.7L SFI 8cyl. Other than the MU1748 fuel pump assembly, what else comes with it and what else do I need to complete the task? I want to ensure that I am prepared and buy everything at one time. My Fuel Tank is re-usable. What do I need to clean out the tank before installing new pump?

                  A:

The installation of ACDelco Fuel Pump Assembly (Part No. MU1748) is straight forward and you will not need any other accessory. This part comes with a new wiring harness too. You can clean the fuel tank with any fuel tank cleaner, following the instructions on the bottle. Let the cleaner sit for several hours to allow the solution to work on and loosen grime, rust and other deposits attached to the walls of the gas tank. Clean the tank out with water from a garden hose. Clean the outside of the tank as well. For any further assistance please feel free to call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto store and one of our representatives will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

                  A:

The problem may be with the fuel filter, a fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, and many more things. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.

On carbureted fuel systems, the fuel filter is usually located near to the fuel line somewhere between the fuel tank and the carburetor. On fuel injected systems, the fuel filter is normally mounted under the car in the fuel line between the fuel tank and the engine.
